I have a birth defect on my back. Can those turn into cancer over time? It’s been very painful lately. I’ve just had bad back pain in general. I’ve also had loss of appetite, anxiety, increased thirst, moodiness, and I’ve just been feeling bad in general. I lost 90 pounds in 3 years on purpose. I feel like my back looks almost deformed. The front of me, my stomach, my legs, the front of my thighs, and my hips, look very small. The back of me looks much bigger. That lump is sticking out in pictures I’m taking. I lost two pounds overnight from loss of appetite this morning.

I know Medicaid won’t pay for much of anything. But I am just on regular Medicare, which I think pays for quite a bit. Is it possible for them to pay to remove it if it’s causing actual pain, and weight loss didn’t help? Also I am worried about cancer, although I’ve had health anxiety since I was a teenager.

I'm sorry you are dealing with all of this. I know health-related concerns can be disturbing. And then when you throw in the accompanying financial concerns it can be almost too much to bear. I'm afraid I would not know what to tell you about any of it. I think it's all something you're going to have to sort through by contacting Medicare & having what you're concerned about checked out medically. My wife & I are on Medicare because we're elderly. I know it pays for some things, but not everything. So we have a Medicare supplement policy to cover what Medicare does not. But I don't know if that would be the situation with you.

Hi Mountaindewed,
Medicare should pay for taking care of the lump on your back if it is causing pain. They wont pay for cosmetic stuff, but that is not the case here. There can be a 20% copay with Medicare - that's why people get supplemental insurance. I have seen people use Medicaid as a supplemental insurance for Medicare.
I think you should go get your back looked at so that you can decrease some of the anxiety you have about it. Hope you feel better soon

It looks like my back pain is probably related to my teeth clenching. My dentist says I need to get out of that habit. She also suggested I talk to my doctor about muscle relaxers. But I’m not sure about that.
