I feel very strongly about them. I would consider myself pro-vaccine. I'll admit that I find it very frustrating when I hear about the anti-vaxx movement trying to spread misinformation in general-but in particular to insular and vunerable communities. In NJ we have a heavily orthodox Jewish population in a particular town/county and measles is spreading. I think there are 150+ cases now. Many of the leaders of this community are doing their best to educated their members and explain that there are no textual, religious mandates that would prevent one from getting vaccines. Most of the cases of measles have been traced back to unvaccinated international travelers that bring back the disease to their communities.
I heard a quote that was something like.. its no big deal, many adults live through getting the measles and that it used to be considered "typical" to get it when you were a child. I think there have been some instances where people have had "measles parties" to encourage children to get it, to get it over with.

The flu shot is another one that I get fired up about. Not every year is it a good match for the strain that is virulent but even if you do catch it having had the shot- it makes it much more manageable. My whole family started getting the flu shot 5 years ago and no one has gotten it since except for last year when my daughter caught on of the strains that the vaccine wasn't a good match for. Even then she suffered through a day and a half of a fever and it went away within a week and was mild. I still know people that had the flu so bad last year that they are still weak and not 100%.

NJ is trying to do away with religious exemptions. I believe they already passed a law that "objections" do not count as exemptions. I struggle with the whole idea of a government mandating a shot but the herd immunity thing is real. Any immuno-compromised person can be affected if a large swath of a community isn't vaccinated. I have an autoimmune disease- I vaccinate/have been vaccinated but I am an adult. A child might not be so lucky.
All are welcome to share on this provided that everyone is respectful of each other without attacking anyone.

I don't do vaccines....definitely NOT the flu shot. I haven't had the flu since I was a young kid when the Asian flu year. Think I was in grade school & I'm 66 now. I only take antibiotics when I am really sick with a bacterial illness. My own immune system is good.

I grew up before vaccines (except polio) I had mumps, both kinds of measles & chicken pox. I was sicker with bronchitis growing up than I was with those illnesses. None of the kids I went to school with had bad reactions with those illnesses either. Why are those illnesses any worse than the common cold that kids get sick with continually in school?

I am just NOT into vaccinating for much of anything.....unless I were going to a foreign country where there are deadly bacterial diseases.

I also do not believe in overloading a childs immune system by giving them all their initial immunizations at the same time. I believe in spreading them out over several months.

I think it is irresponsible that people not vaccinate themselves and their children. You have an obligation to the rest of society to do so.

A few things come to my mind here....

We are not allowed to send our children to school with peanut butter and allergens yet you are allowed to send your child to school with what is also a potential death knoll.
What would you rather, a child with autism (or insert lame excuse here), or a dead child?

It is seriously crazy how the death of science is taking over.

I'm pretty sure the autism link has been debunked. Children are not allowed in public or even most private education systems without proof of up to date immunization records. I know, I submit 3 proofs a year. As someone with an autoimmune illness, I appreciate the value of the flu shot and those around me having one.
Speaking of vaccines and illnesses, I think the one for chicken pox is not only preventing outbreaks but there's some link to long term health damage in having it. And since I've a couple of decades to go before the shingles vaccine not worrying about the pox in my home creating an increased risk of my getting shingles is appreciated. Twice exposed = shingles is my understanding. I was out of school for week with the chicken pox as a kid.

I am 100% for vaccinations and have children with health problems so I could very well have used the "out" for it but when considering my children and looking at the real history of how the world / usa/ my state was before the vaccinations that was enough to tell me yes my children regardless of their health problems and what adverse reactions vaccinations "might" cause I had each of my children vaccinated and they know that they are required, not a choice, in order to attend school they have to have them and if they dont the schools hold "immunization day" where they ...........will........ be given any boosters and shots that they may need. my children sometimes ask why and I tell them flat out because before there were shots children died and now just like there is medication for their broken bones, sprains, fevers, colds and flus, there is medication that makes sure children are safe from mmr and others.

this past 6 months some of their friends came down with measles. and many of their friends were refused school because they were not immunized and could have contracted the disease and very well could have infected others.

my children have also seen on the news about people who have died with this disease.

my point is my children know that being immunized is not a choice and if there is a problem because of the vaccine then we will deal with that when and if ever it happens.

like my daughter said to her class for a writing assignment...."If I didnt have my shots I could be responsible for hurting my friends. I love all my friends enough to have the shots with out fighting. "

cant say it any better. yes in some it can cause problems but I love my friends and family and those I may encounter in this world enough to not want them to get diseases, especially since we have the cure. someday maybe there will be even more cures for other life threatening diseases,

wanted to also add to this that thanks to the measles epidemic where an eradicated and in control disease is making a huge and catastrophic come back complete with deaths in many places, many USA states are once again making it a law that all children be vaccinated and those that are not are severely restricted from schools parks and other community places where the un vaccinated can possibly get infected and or infect others with the disease. here in NY unvaccinated children are no longer allowed in school, no longer allowed at playgrounds, parks and other places where they could contract and infect others.

many places are also adding not vaccinating children as a form of child abuse because not vaccinating results in deaths, emotional harm of the children, and can leave a child with physical scars and physical damages to their organs and other parts of their bodies that these eradicated and controlled with vaccination diseases causes.

as a result of these new laws being enacted and enforced, parents here in NY and other places are now scrambling to do right by their children, and getting them protection against these diseases.

anyone that wants to know if your location is taking a new stand on vaccinations like many USA states are, in order to protect our children and prevent mass epidemics that kills children and adults alike you can contact your locations department of health, social services and the CDC (center for disease control)

Strongly pro-vaccine. About ten years ago I got the worst flu of my entire life, bedridden for three weeks and not really back to my usual self for another six weeks. Every fall since then, as soon as the flu shots become available, I'm near the front of the line and haven't had flu or a particularly bad cold since then. (I know that doesn't make medical sense as there is no vaccine for the common cold, but it is an interesting side effect.)

Planning to check with my doctor about measles immunity, and also get a few other vaccines that would be useful (hepatitis, for travel protection, and a shingles vaccination).

How do I feel about them?!? I feel that without them we’re screwed. I feel that people who ignore science because of their own personal anecdotes are selfish fools. I feel thankful to be born in a time and location where I can receive them and live past 30 on more than luck.

I remember a little after my good friend had her twin daughters that I asked enthusiastically "Have the girls had any of their vaccinations yet?" To that she said "No, Steve and I don't believe in them."

I was speechless to her response above. There was nothing I could say, but I remember thinking that my friend was a lot more ignorant and nonsensical than I ever thought she'd be. To me, vaccinations are an extremely wonderful thing.

I'm old enough that when I was a kid, vaccines were just being introduced and not widely used. The only things I was vaccinated for were smallpox and polio.

I had everything as a kid, whooping cough, chicken pox, regular measles, and German measles, and mumps. I was sick as anything with all of them and almost died from the measles.

So I take vaccines very seriously. I get the flu shot every year, and have done so for at least the last decade, and only had one very mild case.

I think parents who don't vaccinate their children are behaving dangerously.

I trusted the pediatrician and did all the vaccines they recommended, but that was by choice, not mandatory.

I support enforcing rules to protect society by banning people who may carry something that can harm others.

I don’t support anything that would charge these resistant parents with child abuse, though. I’d rather see they make it law to give these vaccines, but that opens another can of worms.

I don’t know the reason the people today are resisting giving them. At first there was a theory about them doing harm. But now scientists have stated this is false.

Don’t take medical advice from The Brady Bunch. Although if someone were to do that it would probably be me.

I am pro vaccines and I have all mine. Even the flu shot.

Interesting topic. I am definitely pro vaccine.
When doctors got to developing countries to bring vaccinations, those people walk for miles just to receive them. But in the US it appears to be the trendy thing to not vaccinate now a days, among certain groups.

The only reason many of those anti vaxer ppls kids are okay is because the rest of the country did vaccinate their kids. As someone with a transplant who cannot receive any live virus vaccines, I depend on other people being responsible for getting those shots so my going out to a mall doesn’t put my health at risk. Here in NY and NJ the numbers of current cases is pretty staggering.

It is so sad that being anti-vaxx is in vogue. I am very strongly for vaccination and I think that not vaccinating one's children is irresponsible to them and to the society we live in.

I get a flu shot yearly, have been doing it for many years, have not had a flu in all of those years, and when I turn 50, my present to myself would be a Shingles vaccine. Also, I had chicken pox as an adult, before the vaccine for adults became available (that is one reason I need the shingles vaccine so much - the virus is the same), and it was tough.

I also apparently had adult whooping cough as a result of California parents' stopping to vaccinate their children against pertussis. Yes, herd immunity is very real.

I am so glad to see like-minded people on here.
