Although resigning the NHS hospital many months ago for reasons of ill health from burnout and a nasty car accident, I had retained my General Medical Licence to practise, and yesterday was offered a full time position at a health centre in my town.

The General Medical Council (GMC) approved my return. I am so happy and fully recovered now. I will be doing regular hours and being given opportunity to practise pediatrics of which I trained for. Elated, I accepted the position and start soon.

Thank you so much! My start date is 1st October. My daughter is overjoyed, our family are and so am I.

Thank you, too! I'm very excited, too. But I had a conscience that not returning to medical practise would be a terrible waste, and there are many who need extra doctors, especially young people. I start 1st October.

That's two weeks from today!! What does 'health center" mean? Is that a clinic that is open during the day or what?

Thank you so much for your support of me.

I felt moved to do paediatrics because our town's young people would have the chance of having a doctor specially trained for all their medical needs. I look forward to becoming fully established and there may be an offer to become a medical partner if the senior practitioners deem me capable.

I may have to work some Saturday mornings because that time is set aside for patients who for reasons of work, cannot make a weekday appointment. I may also have to visit homes because some patients are housebound, but the surgery has two super medical guys who once were paramedics. We are lucky to have them, for both have their Masters permitting them to prescribe. That in itself cuts down considerable time having to consult with doctors and requesting prescriptions.

The Medical Practice has over 17,000 registered patients, and is currently still accepting more. The practice has weekday evenings on offer and between Friends and Family is highly rated at 96%. That is very good. Officially we are open 12 hours a day which is more than some medical practices. The medical centre has a high rating on Google.

During my working hours my daughter will be home schooling with our neighbour's children, so I won't have to worry about her.

Between now and 1st October we hope to take some days off for holiday.

Congratulations. That's awesome that you're returning to work. And it sounds like the clinic you're with is well set up.

Good luck with it.

A 'Health Centre' is the British way of describing a doctor's surgery. I don't remember when the description was moved to 'Health Centre' as I used to work in hospital. It's much the same thing, really. It's only open to early evenings and all during the day. Thank you for asking.
