Default Weight Loss Surgery, Should I?

I weight over 100 lbs more than I should, my cholesterol is rising, family history. I've been dieting over a year and have lost about 30 lbs. I'm now thinking it may be a good option for me, my insurance covers it 100%. My dr says it's a forced diet, but maybe that's what I need. Doing it on my own is only slightly working.

I had the roux n y gastric bypass in '09. I lost 127lbs and have maintained that all but 20lbs. Its important to note that it is a tool and not a fix. I know 4 women who all had WLS and gained it all back plus more because they didnt follow the eating plan.

It is definitely a long-term commitment. I wish you all the best whatever you decide.

I think it's a last choice, after diets have failed. My doc recommended one for me--mainly because of reflux--but I'm going to try to lose the weight on my own.

I suggest you learn as much as you can about it and if interested, get a referral to a weight loss doc and program. The one I've attended is very involved with lots of meetings, psychological assessment, etc.

Are you on any psych meds that are typically weight gainers ? Some not only make you eat more and not feel full but also some slow your normal metabolism down considerably.

If you are Id honestly start thinking about changing meds before undergoing a surgery

What about seeing a dietitian? We can all google on our phones a basic diet.... but sometimes sitting with someone that truly understands how to balance out proteins, carbs etc based on foods you enjoy is a huge help.

Every diet I google includes fish ! I am not a fish person so I need to find substitutes that will be of benefit health wise.
