So, for about 6 weeks now I've had Tinnitus (in both ears) and it's driving me batty! I went to the ENT (he's literally my favorite doctor ever b/c we always talk about tv sitcoms from the 1980s -- one of my favorite conversation topics -- and will even get into debates about who was a better captain, Piccard, Kirk, or Janeway. I mean, the guy is hilarious. I call him Captain Kirk. How goofy am I?

Anyway, he tested my hearing (I passed) to rule out fluid as the cause (no fluid). Then, he tested my blood with a CBC. My anemia is not terrible (11.5) and I've been on OTC for about 4 weeks.

So anyway, my ENT Captain Kirk thinks I should start an Iron shot, not infusion (I will not do an infusion -- too scary!) and stop the OTC. I'm probably going to start the iron shots but I also think my Tinnitus could be from my low thyroid TSH level (and it's really low).

Tinnitus is so annoying. It's like someone screaming "EEEEEEE" really loud in both ears 24/7. I can even hear my heartbeat when I lay down at night which is just weird.

Oh yeah, i would look at any recent med changes. When i first started psych meds, i had a weird ear reaction. It was so long ago, i cant remember the specifics, just that it was very bizarre. But ear sensitivities kinda run in our family.

Hi unaluna! I tend to think of tinnitus as the body's alarm system and when it won't turn off, something's wrong. That's what's so frustrating with ear ringing. It's hard to diagnose the cause. Plus, the tinnitus happens with the inner ear, so ear wax, can't necessarily cause it (or so Captain Kirk says).

So, does everyone in your family have tinnitus all the time? I do wonder if my anemia or low thyroid TSH triggered it. Argh. So annoying this EEEEE sound.

Hey just offering my support. Tinnitus is annoying as hell. I ruptured my right ear drum as a result of an ear infection that got really bad very quickly. I have permanent high pitch tinnitus in my right ear now. Have for 3 or 4 years. Hopefully yours is not permanent. I've learned to tune it out a lot now, but the first few months were very rough. I could not imagine having it in both ears.

@Scatterbraine04 oh sorry to hear about your ear infection and the permanent tinnitus that resulted. Having that horrible ringing on one side of your ear has to be maddening. I hope my ENT Captain Kirk figures out the cause soon. I try to tune it out, but it's really hard.
