I've had acute back pain for years, but about 6 months ago, it became chronic. Now I can only stand to sit for about 4 hours before I have to lie down.

I was waiting for my gp office to reopen after they closed for COVID, but since that doesn't look like it will be any time soon, I broke down and had a telephone appointment today.\

So she's sending me for an x-ray.

I'm really not happy about it, as the only means of getting there is taking the subway, which I've been trying to avoid. And the lab I'm going to, doesn't book appointments for X-rays, which means I may have to wait in a waiting room. Presumably they'll have physical distancing in place, but it still makes me nervous. And I have to wear a mask, which at least makes me feel a little better.

I really wish i didn't have to deal with this, but I really can't stand it much longer.

I'm struggling to stand in the shower for 2 mins before I have to sit down. No joke. I've not really left the house since March and this is the problem. If I did I wouldn't be in so much pain. It's all my own fault. I've restarted taking codeine 15mg see if that makes any difference. I need my back back. I would normally go to chiropractor or for a massage.... but they are still in the Scotland not practicing just yet

I deal with osteoarthritis of the spine it's in the upper and lower part of my spine. There is days when I cannot make it out of bed it's so bad. I also wear depends for women during the night. Its embarrassing there is days when I just don't know if I'll make it out of bed at all. I also suffer from hip problems I sit down my legs go numb. I feel out of control of my body I really want to be active in society again like in my 20s but after the first arithitus diagnosis at 33 now 36. Things I wanted to do have just diminished. I am mentally with it but my body says no. I suffer mental health issues and I think when I have flare ups its partly to do with the amount of pain I am in. I cannot use a scale of pain because there is none for the amount of pain crippling me. As I lay here on my side and type pain is influxes through my body. It also keeps up at night. I take pills for my osteoarthritis before bed and have to pay out of pocket for it. It's called meloxicam. I'm going to ask my doctor for the higher dose when I go into the office on I am hoping Thursday to change it from Wednesday. But unsure on how much damage it's going to do to my pocket for price of the higher dosing. Right now I pay $18.75 its reasonable its once a month prescription. My allergy meds are more expensive and not covered either and come to a total of $40.50 for 30 tabs.

Anyway do it when you feel the most or less in pain as possible. Also have plenty of water with you. I find when lubricating myself is when I drink lots of water. Do little steps to make it as far as possible. And give your self several days afterwards to recoup.

greentires4me, So sorry you're dealing with bad back pain too. It really is debilitating.

I heard back from my Dr. yesterday. I only have the one fractured vertebrae that we already knew about, and there was no sign of arthritis. But I have a rather bad scoliosis which she thinks is the cause of the pain.

She's recommended physiotherapy. Now will come the trick of finding a physiotherapy clinic which will accept gov't insurance, which is all I have, and pays out at a much lower rate than private insurance, so a lot of clinics don't accept it. I'm hoping I can find some place relatively close to me.

But on a seriously positive note, she also gave me the results of my last bone density scan, and it was normal, which is a minor miracle, given the years I spent drinking which causes calcium loss, as dose a couple of my meds, that I've been on long term.

Well, it took a morning of phoning around, but I finally found a clinic that was open, takes OHIP, and didn't have a wait list. So I go in for my first session this coming Wed.

The only downside is I live in the north west corner of the city, and they're in the south east, so it'll take me at least 1.5 hrs each way. It's frustrating, but I've got to do something about the pain.
