So I got up this morning at the god awful hour of 5 AM to drive into the city -- without coffee-- which they wouldn't let me have and had a Coronary Calcium Scan test.
I had been wanting one but my doctor was pushing me to go on statins for my cholesterol and (little did she know) have no intention of doing so. But she agreed she wouldn't push statins if my CAC was ok. She just emailed me and my score was ZERO! Yes... That means there is no calcium in my arteries or, in other words, there is no Atherosclerosis. My chance of a heart attack in the next 10 years is tiny. Now I expected that a bit because generally when you are young you don't have it... and I just went into Menopause so Estrogen is good for the heart, but with this year.. anything was possible. I suppose it could be an issue in the future but I will have the ability to get it checked every 10 years or so. When I saw the email I screamed "YESSSS" and gave my body a little hug. It deserves it.! |

Congratulations! This is one instance where a score of 0 is a great thing!
