I'm craving salt for days. Powerade has been sold out at Sam's for months. I usually drink one a day to maintain electrolytes. I'm taking a supplement that works on balancing our body but since starting my salt cravings have gotten worse. I don't know if wait it out or stop the supplement and see if there's relief.
I hate going to the doctor for every little thing but kind of feel like i should consider calling about this. __________________ Son: 14, 12/15/2009 R.I.P. Daughter: 20 Diagnosis: Bipolar with Psychosis. Latuda 100 mgs. |

My wife & I avoid salt. We buy no-salt-added or low salt products. And about the only time we add salt to anything is when I make bread since a bit of salt is necessary to control yeast activity. (And even there I use the smallest percentage of salt that is necessary.)
I recall reading somewhere (I don't recall where) that a person's taste for salt builds up over time so that people tend to keep adding more-&-more over time in order to satisfy their salt craving. But if a person minimizes their salt intake (of course one does need a small amount in their diet) over time they lose the craving for it. Since we don't add additional salt to anything we don't miss it. Plus, if we do happen to eat something that is heavily salted, we actually find it distasteful. I also find that if I eat something that has been salted, for example a pizza, the following day I can see the difference in my weight as the salt tends to cause my body to retain water. |
