So happy to find this site. I am Marty and I am dealing with several mental health issues. My concern of the day deals with my grandson who fits profile for ADHD. He is in 2 grade, and has had behavioral and academic struggles since kindergarten. ADHD runs in our family..my husband, son and child's uncle.
Does anyone have suggestions about how we can help him?

hi marty
getting him help and supports in place as soon as possible is what is important. he could get a 504 at school (IEP) which would put the necessary supports in place to make sure he is successful. making sure his parents are as educated as possible about treatment options, lifestyle, diet, discipline methods, etc so that he can live a structured life.

welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Hello and welcome to Psych Central Marty!!! It's nice to meet you. You have joined a community of warm and caring members who will want to offer you support and advice. Yours is welcome as well.

Please feel free to contact any community liaison or moderator by left clicking on their name in blue to the left of their post if you need help navigating the forums. It will take some time for your first five posts to appear as they are being evaluated and then you will be able to join chats.

I'm sorry for your struggles. Perhaps the school counselor/social worker could have your grandson assessed using tools they have at the school and give you recommendations. I'm sorry to hear your grandson is exhibiting s/s of ADHD. Please don't forget to take care of yourself as well. You'll find we have a safe and supportive community. I'm glad you've joined us.

I look forward to seeing you around!!!

Get him properly accessed by a component doctor that specializes in ADHD.

You mention OCD in the title, but where does that all fit into this?

I have OCD. It is manifested as compulsively obsessing about everything, what I see, do remember. The major focus is on problems or fears about my grandchildren, husband, and anything I think is unfair or hurtful. These thoughts can make me feel out of control, fearful, sad and angry. I also repeat numbers often like 2,4,6, 8 or 1-10. Sometimes I count my fingers by 2s adnosmium. I have PTSD, was abused for many years as a child. I have made great progress by dealing with my past through therapy.
