I daughter over the phone for the first time today in 9 months. We haven't seen each other in a year. I can tell by her voice that my absence changed her. Shes hesitant to respond when I tell her that I love and miss her. How do I talk to her in order to understand how she is truly feeling?

It could take a while to reconnect the bond. She's also only 6 and that's an age that's difficult to get a lot of heart to heart style communication.

What does your therapist suggest as you build back up to more frequent communication? What has her caregiver been able to share with you regarding how she's been and what she's been busy doing, such as school, friends, playtime, etc.?
