I did this Wednesday for the first time. I felt euphoric afterwards. That lasted a couple of hours. But since then, I've felt so irritable and angry.
How does this happen? I know 'mania' can be euphoria and anger, so I wonder if it triggered something. I'm not bipolar but do have mood problems. I don't even want to be around anyone due to the anger. It's also embarrassing. It fluctuates from irritation to anger. Will it end? |

I have used acupuncture many times. Mostly, I feel calm and relaxed after it and it usually lasts into the next day. As I kept getting treatments over months, I started feeling no affect. Maybe my body got used to it. I haven't gone back since June.
I did have times between treatments where I was irritable more than usual. My acupuncturist told me that the treatments can make you feel great but it can also make bad feelings more intense. She said it is because your mind wants to get back that good feeling and is reacting more harshly to the change in mood. I think everyone has a different experience. |

I read some articles about it. The articles say that it is good to have release of emotions (and anything else). Will see what happens next time.
It was hard for me to feel calm and relaxed because the bed was so uncomfortable duing the procedure! I kept squirming around and wondered if that affected me. |

Let your acupuncturist know what would make it more comfortable for you. I like to make sure my head is comfortable and the lights are dimmed. I hope it is better for you the next time.

I have been going to a community acupuncture center weekly since November (its like $15/session). It is the only time that my head, my heart, and my body meet. It took me several sessions to be able to relax at all, and several more to be able to quiet my thoughts, and then all these emotions came bubbling up. A couple times, I felt really weighted down at first, literally pinned in place. And then the last couple times, i've experienced a spinning euphoric sensation called qi. I've never been able to fall asleep. I have quite a bit of emotional work to do... But I think it helps a lot and can't wait for my wednesdays - and the peace and energy afterwards. Today I had an amazing epiphany in the middle too!

Acupuncture was a miracle for me for kidney infections. It never did anything good or bad for my mental health issues.

i have had good acupuncture and not so good acupuncture, it really depends on the practitioner. i had good results in CA for back pain; and really good results from a Dr. of Acupuncture here in CO (who moved on for lack of business) to stop smoking, and it also greatly improved my brain function; and not good at all results from a 'sports injury' acupuncturist.
so, i would have to say that there is no single answer to your question. look for 'word of mouth' advertising for a really good doc, and don't give up too soon. results can take 20 treatments or more, if, like me, you are a wreck to start with. i got my Tx for $30 per, but that was about 15 yrs ago. i cleaned his office in exchange for my Treatments, or i never would have been able to go once a week. best wishes~! __________________ AWAKEN~! |

It is not uncommon to feel emotions after a session hours later after having felt great. I'd say keep trying it.

Thanks! A lot of helpful information here. I really loved the treatment, but the positive effects were shortlived. My body is really sensitive, so I had all kinds of intense or bizarre reactions.
I only went about 10 times. Would love to do it again but am broke. |
