Default Has anyone had any experience with AOT (aka Kendra's Law)?

The hospital my nephew is staying at is proposing a petition for AOT.

Just looking for some more details on the process.

Hello ConcernedAunt: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral! I'm not personally familiar with AOT. However here's a link to a Mental Illness Policy Org. webpage that offers a detailed description:

AOT (Assisted Outpatient Treatment) Guide - Mental Illness Policy Org

(Note the link at the top of the webpage to information on NY/Kendra's Law.)

And then here are links to some articles (both against as well as for), from PsychCentral's archives, on the subject the first by our host Dr. John Grohol, Psy.D.:

Assisted Outpatient Treatment: Let's 'Assist' Patients By Forcing Them

What Does Enforcing Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) Look Like? | Don't Call Me Crazy

Assisted Outpatient Treatment

"AOT" and Psychiatric Hospitalization is Costly, Ineffective and Dangerous | Trauma Informed Systems

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
