I agree, some patients are a real pain. I've not been one of them.

I completely understand. I also have not ever been one those patients who are a pita.

And tbh I haven’t crossed paths with psych nurses. Only doctors and therapists (far out in the wilds somewhere )

Why are we not respected for speaking our truth.... rhetorical question only.

Once a psych nurse told me "You think you are sooooo cool because you left your parents, but you are just a naughty kid"
(my parents were abusive, it was the first time I saw that nurse, I didn't do anything to her -or anyone-...)

I was colouring a book when she told me that...

pretty nasty is colouring...

I had one nurse tell the group of us that it was our fault we were in the hospital. She hosted groups for us. People say movies like Girl Interrupted and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest are stereotypes but I've seen a lot of patients and nurses like characters in those movies in the hospital. Obviously, not everyone's experiences are the same but I can relate to those movies with my experiences, as well as books like The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, or the book of the same name, Girl Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen.

I had 1 girl who really hated me, so when ever she'd walk in to the room, she'd turn to face me and fart and go, " ah, that's better"

in fact: this same girl didn't believe that I was ready to be discharged and told me that she was going to keep me in for another night.

I told her that actually it had been cleared with another nurse that I'm ready for discharge, she went to check and came back all red faced and is like.. um yeah, she said you're ready to go

I'm like haha, told you so- and she shouted at me for "being rude".

Psychiatric nurses are dealing with all kinds of problems. For one, the healthcare system culture is rife with abuses. Most definitely they are eventually burdened with empathy burnout and compassion fatigue. While they get into the industry to help, overtime they can become corrupted and begin to project further abuses to those who are vulnerable and in need of help. This is a classic and well documented problem. I could go on and on and I have already posted on this thread, but if anyone would like to know more about the cultural and systemic problems, know that psychiatric nurses are not the only ones guilty of abuse.

Thanks,
HD7970ghz
