Are you pro-ED? Why is your goal weight only 80 lbs?
As to your questions, this depends on the program. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

Probably depends on whether the person is showing symptoms of malnutrition or starvation.

A person’s “worthiness” of admission is not solely based on a number (meaning weight) but rather how their body is responding to a pattern of disordered eating. For example, at my lowest weight (your “goal” of 80 pounds) I wasn’t admitted, but monitored on an outpatient basis. When I was finally admitted to the hospital I was around 110 pounds - still a low weight for my 5’7 frame, but not terribly thin. However, I was admitted because of a heart defect that was brought on by years of binging and purging.
This is a dangerous line of thinking you’re on .If you’re waiting for validation you might be waiting a long time and run the risk of killing yourself in the process. It’s a harsh truth, but one to face sooner rather than later. |

About 10 years ago I lost a lot of weight very quickly (90 pounds in under 6 months. It was not healthy. I met with a nutritionist a few times. When I got to my lowest about 125 at 5'8 I was told of I lost much more they would have to take drastic steps. In my case it wasn't so much that I was at a really low weight as that I was losing so fast.

Welcome to the Eating Disorders forum! my suggestion is contact your doctors and they will be able to help you with either entering a treatment program or explain to you what they go by for hospitalizing people with eating disorders, and help you get your eating disorders in control where you wont have to be hospitalized. |

They take all aspects of your health into consideration. Its not based on a number. But if the number is horrifyingly low...of course they will admit!!!!

reason I ask is because the only people that say something like …. "no cant do that until you eat your dinner" are parents. Parents have a right to tell their children that. especially if they have a child who is having health issues, like eating disorders, or anemia and other health problems that can result from not getting the right nutrients. example one of my children is a picky eater, if Im not on top of her eating habits and enforce the rule of eating her dinner she could end up no longer here with us. not to mention if I did not do my parental job of making sure my children were getting the nutrients that they need to stay healthy, Social services would step in and take my children and charge me with neglecting my children's basic needs. I don want that and my wife doesn't want that, and we love our children and do whats best for our children, even if that means they cant go play until they finish dinner, do their homework and their chores are done for the day. my point is a parent over seeing a childs diet and making sure the children eat their meals is what a parent is supposed to do. my suggestion here is maybe you can talk to your parents and ask them if the serving sizes on your plate could be just a little bit smaller and maybe eating a light snack in between meals. that way the meals are not do heavy on you and you get the right amount of nutrients in your body to keep you healthy. example with my child she gets half servings of everything on the table during meals and in between meals she gets a light snack of raw veggies platter...celery sticks, carrot sticks. snap peas, cherry tomatoes and a single serving of her choice of dipping sauce. this way when it is time for her to go for her check ups her weight and blood work are in the normal for her age and height range. |
