I still get them. I had one last night. I avoided it during my 2 year hospital stay because the law in my state is that they need a hearing to get permission. I still remember how I was informed of the decision. About a week after my hearing I was sitting in the dining room eating my lunch when a nurse handed me a legal envelope. She didn't tell me what it was, but after a few seconds I figured it must be by decision. I opened it and started reading but saw how long it was and skipped to the end - State's application denied. The state appealed and that took an entire year, but I won that and they just let me go. It was weird because they had been saying for two years that I was too dangerous to let go without being on Risperdal or Haldol. But then after losing they just let me go.

It would have really been ugly if they had won. I remember my first day on the lower security ward. Some guy was just sitting in a chair and two big male nurses asked him if he was going to take his meds. he said no so they picked him up and dragged him to another room to shoot him up. I still remember one woman screaming please don't when they shot her up. I wasn't planning on begging like that, just screaming eff you a-holes!

I don’t have any nightmares from them. I had plenty of as needed shots to calm me down when I was in the hospitals from 2006-2009. I remember getting 2 at one time. Then I needed 2 antibiotic shots as well at the same time. I slept for about 15 hours after that.

I also remember having an episode in the ER in 2009 and I was given 2 milligrams of Ativan and a milligram of haldal. I was restrained to the bed before being taken to the hospital. The next day at the hospital I threw up from all the drugs and felt sick all day.

I am glad I have all that behind me now.

I've never been to the actual psychiatric hospital but I have been in the psych ward a couple times. I've always been a goodie two-shoes in hopes to not getting drugged. Even when it came to having to get my blood drawn (I'm autistic and getting blood drawn is a very distressing sensory issue for me). I basically just hide all my symptoms and act like it's a mistake that I was even put there and I'm good at making it convincing too (My therapist has shown me the doctor's notes where they ate it all up). Being scared of getting forced drugged or restrained has made me hide my mental illness which defeated the point of being observed and ruined the chances of me getting real assistance. It's great that your state has protections. In most places, the mentally ill are not seen as real humans capable of making decisions. I do think in some cases forced medication is needed to keep the person safe but I think it's rare and not the majority of force-drugged cases and there should definitely be checks and balances on it.

I've never been force drugged during any of my 3 IP stays. But I tend to be pretty compliant with everything when I'm in, so it's unlikely to happen.

Do you get nightmares about being force drugged?

Now I have these bad feelings about being force fed with a tube. Which they can actually do in some hospitals for people who don’t or can’t eat.

I’ve heard of people getting force fed and then put in restraints at the same time and these aren’t even bad hospitals that do this.

I get nightmares about being coerced to take drugs, or being forced to take them (not forcibly having them administered, just having no choice).

I took Benadryl in January and I felt kind of strange like I had just gotten a shot at the hospital. I mentioned it to my therapist and she said that they do give Benadryl shots in the hospital. She seemed to think it was triggering for me to take the Benadryl.

So I guess I still have bad memories.
