i'm thinking of applying for ssi
I have to cut more hours from work because its making me so anxious i am getting dizzy at work, (I work with kids and I got so dizzy to the point where I had to sit down for about 10-15 minutes at a time, and even then, I was still dizzy and faint) and my supervisor today said I cant "constantly change my hours"and that if I "cant commit" to the schedule I'll be put on the sub list, but i need the money but i honestly cant work anymore hours even though im only working a few (15 hours a week) im just scared because i hear everyone gets rejected the first time and that its a lengthy process i am moving to a new state in a couple of months and i'd only need it for a little bit while im still in this statei really need the money, especially now that my boss gave an ultimatum i cant commit to the schedule but being a sub means i may not get the hours i need to afford food or clothes, i can barely afford them now as it is, and yeah, i do get some help from my parents, but they don't make that much either. i still live with them, so i worry that may be a strike against me for getting SSI i am also afraid of what my parents might say, they may say i am not disabled because i only have mental health diagnosis and my physical health is okay, but work has been way too stressful for me, my symptoms are coming back pretty strongly and i have been
Possible trigger:
i don't need a lot, just enough that i can maybe go on the sub list, or work fewer hours but still get enough money coming in that me and my bunny can eat. i'm looking for some information on the process and what things i will need, i am also wondering how long does it take to apply? i kind of need the benefits soon. |

Ssi is different than ssdi.
Im not familiar with ssi but i think it has to do with income. I have applied for ssdi with my doctors recommendation. I also got an attorney. I know this process takes a few months to a few years. Do you have a doctor who will help support your claim with medical evidence? Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |

If you do not have a Doctor agreeing that you are in fact unable to work then there is virtually no way to be awarded SSI. Even if the Doctor agrees SSI can takes months to years to get.... if ever.

Here's the link to what you need to know: https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/
As ~Christina says, I doubt you qualify if you are living at home and only working part-time/have not been fired or laid off because of your disabilities, are not seeing a doctor who is pressuring you to apply for disability. __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |

I applied for SSI (though yours sounds like SSD) and didn't get rejected. They said they weren't sure so I was sent to see a psychologist for an evaluation but his report they gave me SSI.

Sit down with someone if you decide to apply...They will try to get you in with both SSI and SSDI that is what happened with me, and I'm not sure if it was because I was a mom or what anyway. There are people that got approved on the first application, you never know it might happen for you as well. It happened for me, I don't know that I can attributed that to anything other than I got lucky. Go for a lawyer right away it is a painful process hopefully you can maintain until approved with family significant other financially. With me in my experience there are hard to get information out of SSA, because if you have problems with understanding(uncooperative system etc) they withhold information it's kinda not cool to have smart ones out front cause they will say a few words to have those ones significantly distressed out front to where you will never seem like you got the most thorough amount of information. Work at your own risk while there is an application, relay on lawyers to guide you. You can work while there is an application, but they can use work to support a denial....It is very tedious, so just make sure you got good friendly lawyers to help you or a family representative. I'm not sure what your dx just speaking our experience.

The process isn't that simple. it takes time to get SSI. You might get a little bit of interim assistance to live on while waiting for a verdict but it isn't much. It takes a long time for them to determine also whether you are truly disabled.
