| Proper use of this medicine | Take this medicine as directed by your physician. Take each dose with a full glass (8 oz) of water. Clomipramine may be taken several times a day or in one daily dose (usually at bedtime). Follow your doctor's instructions. It may be 4 weeks or more before you start to feel better, but do not stop taking clomipramine without first talking to your doctor. Top of page
| Missed Dose | Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses. Top of page
| Storage | Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Top of page
| Possible Side Effects | - loss of appetite
- nausea
- ringing in the ears (less common)
- weakness
- agitation
- tremor or muscle spasms
- dry mouth
- headache
- drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness
- an allergic reaction:
- difficulty breathing
- closing the throat
- swelling of the lips face or tongue

| Warnings/Precautions | - Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Clomipramine may cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you experience drowsiness or dizziness, avoid these activities.
- Dizziness is likely to occur when you rise from a sitting or lying position. Rise slowly to prevent dizziness and a possible fall.
- Alcoholic beverages can increase the effects of this medicine and should be avoided.
- Do not stop taking clomipramine suddenly. This could cause symptoms such as nausea, headache, and malaise.

| Overdose | Seek medical attention immediately. U.S. residents can call the national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly. Top of page
| Drug Interactions | - Do not take clomipramine if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the last 14 days.
- Clomipramine may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness, including other antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), pain relievers, anxiety medicines, and muscle relaxants. Tell your doctor about all medicines that you are taking, and do not take any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines without first talking to your doctor.
- Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with clomipramine. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products.
