The effects were barely noticeable and did not do its job.

I was prescribed this medication as a backup if I got into a blackout rage, frankly, it did not help anything.

I have been taking Ativan for years. It has helped me control my anxiety issues and panic attacks. It is supposed to be addictive buy I have never increased my dose from original 1 mg 3 times a day.

Works when Diazapam did not

CONS:

I get this via NHS prescription and for a medication that I take only when I need to, it is brilliant.Having autism, (and this seems to be the case with some with the condition), diazapam did nothing. As such, it was a welcome relief that lorazapam filled that space in times of anxiety.

"Retardation" of the body.

As Lorazepam is commonly given to treat irritability in mood, anxiety and some aggressive attributes, it not only slows down the body but also slows down the brain enough for the person to calm and to go back into a normal state. For example, I personally walk about when I am having an episode or become increasingly talkative, the second the Lorazepam is effective I sit down or lay down, my pacing around becomes non existent and my speech slows down and becomes less rushed.

Does wonders for anxiety

Atvian works great for me. I've always been hesitant about medication, esp. because of my bad experience with Zoloft (different type of med., I know, but I was still iffy). Anyway, Ativan works wonders - I take one (.5mg) when I'm either experiencing bad anxiety that I fear might lead to an anxiety attack, or if I'm currently having an attack. Works fast, calms me down like I never even had anxiety in the first place, and lasts for at least several hours. I do make sure that I only take them as needed though, and usually a max of a couple of times a week because I'm aware it can be addicting. I'm also working with my therapist on ways to alleviate my anxiety without having to rely solely on medication, so this way I'm not tempted to take it more often if I'm feeling extremely stressed and anxious.

loses affect when taking for long periods of time, habit forming, although I've no problem going without

|
I've taken Ativan mainly for anxiety. As of the past few months I've been taking it at bed time and usually mid-sleep to due to waking up with anxiety.
It does seem to lose it's affect. This results in taking more than the prescribed dose. However, my doctor has told me that taking a little more than prescribed when necessary is okay.
In regards to dependency; this has not been an issue for me. I've taken Ativan on and off for years and I've never had withdrawal. I am also very cautious about taking something with the risk of addiction. So, I try my best to not take it daily and if things are going well; I really don't feel the urge or need to take it.

Very effective for anmxiety. panic, and severe agitation. Insignificant side effects. Effects don't last too long, a good thing in some instances
|
CONS:
|
Shorter duration of action than clonazepam or diazepam. a bad thing for prolonged anxiety. Can be habit forming.
|
|
Very effective for panic and generalized anxiety disorder. Probably slightly more effecti8ve than alprazolam and diazepam for anxiety. Of the benzodiazepines I have used, only temazepam, nitrazepam, and clonazepam were as powerful for treating anxiety and the temazepam and nitrazepam were a bit too sedating to use during the day.

When I was prescribed Ativan, I was told to take it 3x daily. If I took the medicine even 20 minutes later than usual I felt just awful! I later found out that Ativan is supposed to be taken AS NEEDED. I guess my doctor was a twit.

ok, ive been taking ativan for about 5 years. was prescribed to help with my panic/anxiety attacks. i started out taking 1mg twice a day. took it for 3 months daily and then i decided i wanted to come off of it. i had to miss work and did not sleep foron 3 days till i finally couldn't take the panic/anxiety constant feeling so i called the doctor for the refill. then ive went to taking 3mgs a day to what im taking now which is 1mg in the morning only and 1 in the evening if i need it. i would say yes it does work well for anxiety/panic attacks. depending on your tolerance of the medication its better to take it before the panic or anxiety attack reaches its high. i was actually able to succesfully stop taking ativan after almost 2 years only because the pd prescribed a withdrawal drug to counter the severe withdrawal effects. and to my surprise that actually worked, although i can't remember that drug he game me to take for 2 weeks after gradualing coming off the ativan. so i stayed off of it for almost 1 year, and now have been back on it for 3 years. one suggestion i would give is something i wish i would have done. everyones different. but, when i look back i probably could have coped only taking it when the panic/anxiety attacks would get bad. instead i was so fed up with the attacks i just started taking it daily immediately just so i wouldn't have to deal with anymore attacks at all. well so then i became completely dependent on it. which i don't like. so if you can manage to function by taking it like 3 or 4 times a week instead of everyday i would try that to keep from getting totally dependent on it. Goodluck, God bless, josh

It completely stops panic attacks in 15-20 minutes for me at 0.5mg dose. NO SIDE EFFECTS when taken as directed.
|
CONS:
|
While Ativan didn't make me drowsy, it did make it near impossible to employ problem solving skills for a technical problem (i.e. research, homework, etc). For "pinchy" anxiety related skin/arm/leg pain, it did nothing, even at a 1mg dose.
|
|
Like I said, it completely stops panic attacks in 15-20 minutes for me at 0.5mg dose. It doesn't make me drowsy AT ALL. Instead of making you feel "better" it simply stops extreme emotions so that you're okay -- so that can have an important conversation, give a presentation, function coherently at work, etc. The way I describe it, it's good for stopping hysterical crying, but for steady, bothersome anxiety, Ativan did nothing for me. It only did something when I was having an emotional breakdown (panic attack). And even after it helped me get control of the panic attack, 30% of the lingering anxiety was still there. That's when you talk to your doctor about some other medication to manage the steady anxiety.

Ativan relieved me of anxious feelings but did not get rid of the thoughts thayt were causing my anxiety. It made me feel loopy. I got very drows and spacedy out and couldn't do much of anything, which sucked because i always took it in daytime. 1 milligram was too much for me, i had to cut it into half or quarters because the side effects were too strong.

This drug helps me with panic attacks and general anxiety @2mg. twice a day.
If I were to get off this medication, I would want to do it in a hospital because from what I have already experienced by missing a few doses, with head and ear aches that are horrid, to body and leg aches, after 3 years, I'm going to get off it the correct way... when there is a better replacement for it, of course.

Ativan one of my first legal drugs, no more paper bags for panic attacks.
I have been on it about 7 years. It can be used as powdered alcohol,as I did
Now I take as told. The benefits out weight the drawbacks.I have noticed this month that walmarts lorazepam is about 33% less potient then my new pharmcy.
This is from my experience only! as an alcoholic in recovery. 4 years, 3 slips

I take 2mg of lorazepam and ambien at night w/seroquel. Most of the time I sleep but I don't hear anything or anyone after I am asleep. That's kind of worrisome to me. I do not babysit if I have taken it, I don't want to take any chances w/the kids. Better to be safe.

Ativan is great for anxiety. I've tried Xanax and Valium once before with no luck. Xanax helped with extreme anxitey though. I notice for me ativan takes about a hour to kick in. Sometimes it's amnesiac effects make me forget that i even took it. I take 1mg two times a day, for social phobia and anxiety from work if needed. No need to take any at night since the daily dose usually makes me drowsy by the end of the day. Not to mention a hard day at work. It doesn't effect my work ethics at this dose, thought sometimes i forget where i put things.
It is a longer lasting Benzodiazepin, unlike xanax or valium which usually lasts 2 hours at max. Ativan lasts about four to six hours for me, sometimes only having to take 1mg a day. One thing i notice is that if i do take it at night sometimes for insomnia, in the morning it is hard to get up. What i do is drink some coffee, for some reason it cancels some of the effects of ativan. So far this is the only benzo that has worked for my anxiety when needed. Xanax was good but was short acting and i think would be way more addicting since it has a short half-life, so i wanted to stop taking it. Ativan was a good replacement my pdoc said.

Taking these has helped keep me in school when I was about to drop out because of the panic attacks I was having. No real complaints except when I take it I tend to feel a little like I'm high or drunk only in the way where I'm not afraid to say what ever comes to mind. I guess thats just because it is so relaxing that you don't feel like you have to worry about what you say.

i have had a pretty good experience with Lorazepam since i first started using it 2 years ago. i find that it takes about 2 hours to take full effect and the half-life is about 12 hours, so if you take 2-3 mg at least some of the effect will be with you for the whole day, at least in my case. i have been taking it for social phobia, and i find that it is very effective in reducing the amount of anxiety that i experience in social situations. it is also helpful for depression. sometimes i will take a few when i become very depressed and it is usually enough to elate my mood for the rest of the day (at least in my experience, please remember that it will act differently in everybody). my psychiatrist said that it is a fairly safe medication to take. the tolerance starts building up if you take it for a period for longer than four months so be sure to keep in contact with your therapist or your psychiatrist to report how you feel. if you take just a couple a week my psychiatrist said that there should be no problem with addiction and doses much higher than that are required for a tolerance to begin to build up. some of the side effects that i experienced on this medication are drowsiness, lethargy, and amnesia. they were all pretty mild and were not a big deal. the most notable was the amnesia. once that Lorazepam wears off you may find it hard to remember some of the details of what occurred during your experience on the Lorazepam. it also tends to make me moderately drowsy but that side effect is not too difficult to cope with for me. my psychiatrist said that this drug also tends to cause dis inhibition, much the way that alcohol does. i would recommend this drug for anybody who has been diagnosed with any type of anxiety disorder. ask your doctor about it and see if she thinks that you are a good candidate for this medication.

good anxiety reduction

addictive, can zonk you out sometimes

I've found this drug (.5mg) can be a savior during times of severe anxiety. I take this only when I've having a really bad time with anxiety as I'm afraid of its addictive potential. I usually tolerate the medicine well but there have been a few times I took it and it really zonked me out, kinda like a strong cold medicine. Zonked out is better than an anxiety attack though.

Excellent for me with a panic attack, anxiety, pms, and anger issues.
Was having really bad panick attacks and constant anxiety. I still feel I was having a nervous break down. Was put on different medswhich made me worse, thought I was going crazy. Couldn't drive, was agoraphobic, and really deppressed. I thought I was crazy then a doc gave me ativan and within 30 minutes I felt totally "normal" started to cry cuz it triped me out to feel so normal. It got me back out driving when I could not drive across the street. I try not to take everyday and I weaned myself to a much lower dosage. Sometimes I get really bummed out on being on this med for so long and my doctor would always tell me why make yourself suffer if it works. That is true and yes it is addicting but so is food, coffee, cigs, alchol, etc.....
It did help me big time and the biggest plus is my kids didn't have to see me freak out all the time. It has helped me function along with an anti-deppresent. The only thing that sucks is yes it's addicting.

Fast acting and works well. I've found the name brand is better than the generic

Drowsiness during the day
|

Works well and works rapidly. I take it more during the daythan at night - a lower dose helps with the drowsiness.

My favorite anti-anxiety med!

Dependency is inevitable if not weaned off.

For people with anxiety disorders, this pill is a godsend. However, use only when needed; such as agitation, irritation, obsessive compulsive, racing thoughts, panic attacks etc. Do not use as a sleeping aid unless prescribed by a physician. Avoid staying on the medication for more than one month. For me, I keep a stash of 15 pills for emergencies only (e.g panic attack).

didn't do much for my anxiety, very, very addictive

I was put on this with zoloft, and paxil. I did need it, not for panic attacks, but for extreme, and constant anxiety. It may have helped somewhat, but overall, no it did not! Will make you drowsy, but as far as for anxiety, not worth it, just very addictive, and that's a high price to pay for a pill that doesn't do it's job.

would recommend for people who become either panic attack or agitation, then this ativan would alleviate this nasty symptoms. While I was in hospital I couldn't sleep and desperately to abscond from the unit and go to the lake in the middle of the windy night but I was given that meds and didn't think it would work. However, it calmed me down gently and sleep soundly without any problem.

I took Ativan to calm myself down so I was able to fly multiple times this summer. I had recently recovered from a 3 year bout with agoraphobia and was still suffering from occasional panic attacks and anxiety.
I hadn't flown in 10 years and was phobic about being trapped somewhere I couldn't leave. I was also afraid of being in a large, crowded airport and having to stand in lines. Ativan calmed me down enough to do all of these things with ease.
It helped me overcome some of those phobias and I gained a lot of confidence. I am now able to fly without taking any drugs.
I've been told that Ativan can be addictive, but I didn't take it on a regular basis. I took about 20 tablets in total during my summer travels and haven't taken it since. It worked extremely well for me.
As for side effects: I have no memory or limited memory of some of my experiences while I was taking Ativan. There are entire flights that are totally blacked out in my memory. Other flights are just a blur. I remember bits and pieces but not the whole experience. I can't imagine functioning at work or handling daily tasks requiring focus while on this medication. It's difficult to form thoughts clearly and I found that things were getting stuck on the tip of my tongue while I was speaking. I felt very SLOW. Fortunately, the effects of the medication wear off quite quickly.

I take it as needed to ease my anxiety and to help me sleep. This med is the best by far in helping with anxiety. It can be habit forming but since I don't use it everyday, I have not had that problem.
