Nine years ago, I tried this medication for about 6 months. It worked initially for me, but then stopped. I didn't have any bad side effects from it. It just did not work for my depression. However, I think if you are trying to find a medication that works, it may be worth at least giving this one try. It may not have worked for me, but it may work for you. It was 9 years ago, so I don't remember the price I paid.

Doesn't go well with an occasional cup-a-coffee, nothing else wrong. Worried about the effect on liver.

It is quite expensive, but worth every penny. Once I had an espresso before lunch-time while on this and was feeling so edgy for the rest of the day. Other than that I had no problem adjusting into this from Lexapro. I was tapering off Lexapro for two months with relapse of Anxiety and OCD with mood/emotional disturbance - (doc calls as depression).
Before starting this I was also having excruciating cluster headaches that later we found out to be stress related.
But with this medication, the headaches was very less and short. I was paced in in a period of three days and it started working from the week after. My mood and emotions are more positive. It is as good as Lexapro plus no side effects when adjusting to a new medicine. With Lexapro, I had Orthostatic hypertension and hot flashes whenever upping the dose, but nothing like that with this medication.

When I first started Cymbalta I was thrown into a manic episode. I felt like I wanted to tear my skin off, the Cymbalta made me so agitated and irritated. I had a bout of energy I hadn't had in a while and was bouncing off the walls. I even ended up tearing my room piece from piece with a screwdriver because I had to release my feelings somehow. I also became extremely angry and anxious while on the pill.

I tried this after trying several SSRI's that gave me insomnia, but it turns out Cymbalta gives me insomnia too. It helped a decent amount, but I just couldn't deal with not sleeping well for so many months. Going off the drug was a nightmare though! I was getting hot flashes (I'm only in my 20's) and was just a mess.

This is the first anti-depressant that has truly worked for me. All of my loved ones have seen the difference, and combined with a low dose of abilify, I am in good space most of the time. I did not know I could feel good without being manic (I am bipolar). I would recommend to others to give this medication a try if they are still struggling on a different med. It has been life changing for me.

This medication should not be prescribed due to the variances of effect between users. I have heard of some experiencing relief, but the vast majority, myself included, have had many negative and harmful side effects, especially during withdrawal. I have been taking Cymbalta (60mg) for two years in conjunction with Wellbutrin (450mg). The problem with taking the medication as a "booster" to other antidepressants is that you then can't determine which medication are causing side effects and what is "normal reality" for someone with depression or other mood disorders. For the past two years I haven't worked, can barely take care of myself and my child, I have gained a significant amount of weight, have no energy for even routine tasks like showering. Is this just what happens when one is depressed? Well, yes and no to a degree. The Cymbalta worked to numb every thought and feeling I was experiencing. I just didn't give a crap about anything and would just sleep as many as 16 hours a day. I also have had daily migraines and stomach cramps while on the medication.
I have tried to wean myself off of Cymbalta twice. The first time was accidental because I ran out of medication and couldn't afford more. That time I experienced severe and debilitating withdrawal effects like brain zaps, vertigo, nausea, dizziness, headaches, body aches. It disappeared as soon as I was able to purchase my prescription and start back on the 60mg dose. I am currently weaning myself off again after another year of uninterrupted medication. Four months ago I began taking 50mg, then one month of 30, two months of 20mg and I have not taken anything in 3 days. Yep, all the same side effects are there despite the gradual tapering. On the plus side, for the first time in two years I actually felt energetic. I cleaned my entire house, showered, and then decided to go out amongst the living for a few hours. This is getting closer to how I felt before the deep depression took over my life. I am actually looking forward to getting over the withdrawal hump and feeling normal again. I can't wait to get my libido back and to start feeling emotions again. If Cymbalta was supposed to help, it didn't for me. It made everything much, much worse and if it hadn't been for the scary withdrawal effects that I had experienced the first time I would have stopped taking this drug a long, long time ago. I have lost two years of my life while on Cymbalta. My suggestion is that if your doctor is considering putting you on Cymbalta ask if he/she has taken it. If they haven't, then don't do it. I don't think doctors would be prescribing this medication for anyone if they knew how horrible it makes a person feel. There is something fundamentally wrong with a medication that is supposed to help life a person out of depression and instead pushes them deeper into the abyss. Do they do this so that we are forced to stay on the medicine and therefore continue to buy it, thereby increasing their sales? It seems very unethical to me. People struggling with depression should not be used as guinea pigs. We are already too vulnerable.

Give it a good try; use Tums or omeprazole for stomach side effects; don't miss a dose; I found taking it at noon works best for me; keep hydrated; combine with psychotherapy.
I have been depressed for decades. I am also a recovering alcoholic/drug addict (clean/sober for five years now). I suffered from major depressive disorder, suicidal ideation and attempts, seasonal affective disorder, generalized anxiety, self mutilation, and dysthimia (sp?).
I tried paxil, welbutrin, lexepro, and celexa. Cymbalta has finally relieved my depression. I have been on Cymbalta for nine months. I am curious to see how I do this winter - depression is usually worse for me in winter months; this will be my first winter on Cymbalta.
I attend psychotherapy and also tend to my spiritual health.
The horror stories of Cymbalta kept me away from it. Out of desperation I tried it finally; so glad I did! If and when I come off of it, I will treat it as a med that needs progressive withdrawal measures.
I recently started taking clonazepam for anxiety. The combination is working well for me. I take 1/2 tab of clonazepam at night
I take 60 mg of Cymbalta at noon. I get flu like symptoms (body aches/fatigue) immediately if I skip a dose or am late with a dose. I get occasional stomach upset/burning, which I take Tums and omeprazole to relieve. No other side effects thus far.
For me, suicidal ideation was immediately relieved within first couple weeks of taking Cymbalta. (Life is so much easier without those pesky, self loathing, negative thoughts!)
Cymbalta also lessens menstrual cramps and lower back pain for me; although, I still take NSAIDS for both occasionally (even though the use of NSAIDS and Cymbalta is cautioned).
I am very pleased with Cymbalta's treatment of depression!

aside from the dizzy feeling, i really didnt like the headbuzz or headshocks as it appears to be called.
i also had a very hard time reaching climax while on this medication (took it for about 5 months). does anyone know what exactly in cymbalta causes this?? i felt that as a whole cymbalta wasn't too bad compaired to some of the other medications i've tried in the past .. but this inability to reach climax is what eventually pretty much started to cause counter active thoughts.
i have tried looking all over for what specific element in this medication causes it, but have never found an answer .. puzzling.

I was suffering from a long episode of major depressive disorder, insomnia, anxiety and panic attacks. Oh and throw in chronic pain, lots of injuries and surgeries from years of sports. I made several half hearted attempts at suicide then found a way to fully commit to it. By a miracle I was found just as I stopped breathing. I am on about 4 months 60 mg 2x a day. No suicidal thoughts even though I am unemployed, homeless and trying to support my family. I actually am now clear headed and moving forward. It took me about 4 months to get to this point plus I went to therapy. I used to have daily headaches and frequent migraines but they stopped completely since being on this. I was on Xanax 2mg 3x a day but realized I didn't need it anymore. I stupidly went cold turkey on the xanax and ended up having mild to moderate lower grade seizures for a week. I briefly went back on xanax to do a rapid ween with neurontin. The schedule was 4 weeks I did it in two. I haven't noticed any cymbalta side effects. I did put on 30 pounds in a month but I am exercising and already took 17 off. Good luck to all.

It helped me a lot at first with very few negative side effects, very mild loss of appetite at worst. But after a couple of weeks I developed some weird ticks like kicking my foot in class and while in bed, something I've never done before but couldn't stop! After a couple of months, it's unfortunately completely stopped working for me at the max dose, and I also suspect it makes me even more sleepy than usual. I'm currently still taking it anyway, but I hear the withdrawal effects are terrible too. Yay.

I pray that if you are considering taking this medication you read this first. 1, This medication is a lifetime commitment. 2. If you choose to stop taking Cymbalta be ready for the most God-Awful mind destroying hellious experience of your life....that is if you are strong enough to beat the devil! This drug manufacturer has no idea (or maybe they do...and don't care)about the withdrawl problems with this drug. I am very lucky to survive the constant "brain Zaps" that almost killed me. I took loads of Benedryl to help with the constant electronic nerve "shocks" That I suffered for 2 months!! I swear to everything that's Holy....DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION!!!!!!

my doctor put me on cymbalta back in augest of this year for my anger and mood swings. best thing thats happened. my wife & childern noticed a major difference in my behavior the 1st day i was one it. i've been diagnosed w/cyclothymic personality disorder i started out on 30mg then bumped to 60mg now i take 120mg. from 1st day i started i've been full of energy,maybe a little too much.3am i'm still wide awake wanting to do thing around the house.if im lucky i get 4 hrs sleep but still bursting w/energy next day.it works for me

I first had trouble sleeping, so my dose was lowered until I got use to it. Then I had abdominal pain, and tar like stools. Very painful to pass. I had a colonscopy and an endoscopy. I'm 32. It wasn't pleasant. After these were cleared, I started having sharp pains in one breast, then I started to leak. I thought it was puss, but later found out it was milk. I have never been pregnant, I found it quite scary, and the doctors thought I had breast cancer. Got tested, no cancer~!!! yeah!! Got off Cymbalta and all the symptoms went away. The doctor's never looked at these issues as side effects even though it was my only new prescription. My doctor said the medication was tested on men, so leakage wasn't a issue.

I have been on cymbalta (after Effexor XP) for over a year and it is, so far, my miracle drug.
I don't get my highs and lows in depression/anxiety and I am lucky not to have any side effects that I have noticed.
I am much happier in life on it. One exception...I am still havind difficulty coping with people...they just don't get me!!?? I try to be liked, but I constantly fail. Thanks you Cymbalta

I've been on this since it became available at various doses. Doc switched from Wellbutrin/Lexapro to Cymbalta simply in the hope it would aid in pain relief & help depression(remained on Lexapro). I don't know ..... I miss my Wellbutrin. At 120mg I ended up in the ER w/tachycardia. Weaned off Lexapro, then down to 30mg on Cymbalta, couldn't stop crying, again-miss my Wellbutrin.... but I could poo! On 60mg now for a couple months, think I've hit a wall, can't sleep even tho Lyrica makes me weary .... better suck down my Ambien. Is there a maybe recommendation?

made me manic, night sweats, brought back addictions, bad withdrawals even if weening off, don't care about anything

well, seemed alright at first, but got to the point i was tired i went home and read all afternoon until bed. but when i went to bed, couldn't sleep. i didn't care about doing housework, my performance at my job suffered cause i just didn't care and didn't fell like doing anything. as with prozac, i picked up my old addictions that i have been clean from for almost three years. all in all, i lost $5,000 to my addictions while the doctor tried to find the right anti-depressant. i went from functional but moody and agitated to not-functional. i'm done trying, my family, my checkbook, my life can not go through "trying" another anti-depressant. even if you ween off it, the withdrawals are awful, joint pain, headaches, nausea, constant crying.

Started taking Cymbalta in June of '08. Got up to 60 mgs. Felt great at first but, have side effects from it. Biggest problem is getting up several times a night to urinate, but can't do it. Starts around 4 am and does not stop until I get up for the day. Extreme tiredness due to this problem. Dry mouth is a problem too. Overall, this drug is ok. But, dreading hearing about the withdrawal symptoms after experiencing them with Effexor.
I cut cold turkey at 60 mgs only being on the drug for less than a month.

Day 3 of withdrawal from Cymbalta. Mind you I was only on this drug for 24 days. I have been through the Effexor (after being on it for almost 2 years at 150mg) withdrawal and thought that this withdrawal would be a picnic. I can't believe how terrible the past 3 days have been. I have been extremely dizzy, brain zaps, cold sweats, and peeing all the time (I think this is due to the fact that I had urinary problems with Cymbalta and now that it is getting out of my system, I am able to urinate again - kinda scary knowing this). I hope that day 4 proves to be like it was when I was going through with the Effexor withdrawal. I started to feel better then. But, who knows. Cymbalta doesn't mess around.

Day 6 of withdrawal from Cymbalta. Feel much better, though still have weird brain zaps and a little bit of vertigo. But, I started to drink green tea and have been drinking lots of fluids the past few days. I definitely feel much better today than six days ago. I was lucky I did not have work and could lay in a dark room with the air conditioning on for a week.
*It will be different for a lot of people due to various reasons like dosage amount, length of time on medication... I got off of Effexor in six days, so my metabolism must be faster than others.

I only took it once and it totally spaced me out. Plus, I couldn't urinate! No joke..when I went to the toilet, I would sit there for 2-3 minutes waiting for the message from my brain to reach my bladder to release the urine. I'm not kidding. It was like I had no control over my bodily function! Glad I didn't stay on it!!

well i am still taking it. haven't been on it long. hoping some side effects go away but the ones i have are bareable compared to the prozac manic episode that cost me 3,000 dollars. trying tranzene to counter-act the agitation.

I have been taking cymbalta since it first came out, about 2 or 3 years. It works great when I take it. If I miss just one dose I get the worst headache. It does go away about 4 hours after I take it again. My doc. wants to put my one 120 mg, but having problem with ins. co.

I started out on 30mg to help with depression/anxiety. The side effects were very hard to overcome at first - I was extremely tired, constantly yawning, sweating easily, and experienced nausea. My doctor increased my dosage to 60mg after one month. My side effects also increased, but I also noticed many positive results. I haven't had a panic attack in several months, my depression has eased, and my appetite is back to normal. I have been taking Cymbalta for 7 months and am so far pleased with the results.

i was such an i-don't-believe-in-western-medicine-especially-anti-depressants type person but i tried cymbalta after my doc highly recommended it. i was hesitant but tried it as a last resort as i am dealing with chronic neck pain, TMJ, and fatigue which was causing severe depression and anxiety. i had even tried effexor for 6 weeks before which is a similar drug but experienced several side effects. cymbalta has not banished my physical ailments but has allowed me to focus on other things and not so much on the pain. i was in so much pain i could not even function. now, i am able to. the pain is still there but the anxiety about the pain is gone as well as the major depression. i feel like it just gives me better coping skills or something. i'm not saying its a permanent fix but until i get whatever it is going on resolved, cymblata helps me deal with it in the meantime. i have no side effects yet and it has been 4 weeks. i started to feel better after only 6 days which is faster than most SSRIs and SNRIs. i just wanted to give cymbalta a fighting chance because there are so many negative things said about it. it may not be for you because its different for everyone but i'm telling you...for the time being it has saved my life. give it a chance!

I felt better than I had in years, and it helped plantar fasciitis, urinary incontinence as well as my depression. I had so many hot flashes, my scrubs were soaked, and my face was red all the time. Eventually it stopped working on the depression. Now in weaning off, I'm having strange electrical type shocks in my brain and body, I am crying a lot and had about a week of nausea. This is much worse than the depression itself, and when I tried to go back on full strength again, it didn't work. I am miserable. Trying to take Welbutrin now, I already take clonazapam for night terrors.

I really would recommend this. I've not had the side effects noted by others and do extremely well on this medication. Take it midday as sometimes it does not have the same potency in the evening if you take it in the morning.

I've only been taking this for four days, but so far I don't have any complaints. I'll probably be posting in a week or two with an update. I listed the decreased appetite as a "pro", because I'm 50 pounds overweight, so I'm not complaining about that.
