PROS: Peace of mind, calmness and makes it easy to fall asleep. Helped to fight OCD.
CONS: No libido, depersonalization, apathy - 'meh'-kind-a-feeling.

I was on this for a very short period of time probably as a precaution when first started an antidepressant. It seems the Doc I have gone to gives this to any patient for the first month when first starting an antidepressant. I had zero libido, but my mind was very peaceful and calm. At first, it makes you sleepy and helps falling asleep while starting an SSRI. After the first use, I woke up to feel quite awful about myself - with a weird taste or smell in my mouth.

PROS: Stabilizes mood, decreases anxiety
CONS: EXTREME weight gain and hungriness

This medication works really well especially in stabilizing the mood. The only thing I hate about it is that it causes weight gain (especially when taking other meds) and hungriness. Otherwise it is a great medication.

PROS: it works
CONS: none

I usually purchase proposed pills via americantrustpills (seriously, this place sucks) without danger. Unfortunately I use to take lots of it so low expense is vital for me.

PROS: Made the unwanted thoughts semi-managable
CONS: Makes me drowsy and weak all the time and worsens depressive feelings

I take two 1 mg tablets every night and waking up I feel like weak and tired. Normally, I could go to bed at 1-2 am, wake up 6 hours later and feel mostly awake, but now I feel tired all the time despite going to bed at 8-9 pm and waking up at 7-8 am. Taking naps does next to nothing and it's hard for me to fall asleep even when I'm in this constant tired state. As well as being tired, it worsens my depressive feelings. I feel more hopeless, overwhelmed and sad more than usual. Reading these reviews, I take this with with some caution.

PROS: calmed mind so was able to function, took care of mood swings, obsessiveness, agitation, hypersensitivity
CONS: did not completely eliminate delusions, just quieted them/increasing dose sometimes caused racing thoughts, akathisia, and low blood pressure when standing

Have been taking this (generic) for several years without major side effects (except some acute side effects when increasing dose). Hit a ceiling with tolerable dose at 6mg, so am now supplementing with 10mg zyprexa. I was at the 6mg for over a year though, without issue. I then had some breakthroughs and increasing the dose only made some worse symptoms appear, like akathisia and racing thoughts. I had tried to lower my dose several times, only to have symptoms reappear, so not sure if that is the underlying illness or withdrawal from the risperdal. My diagnosis is mood disorder NOS, however I had some paranoid delusions to, akin to delusional disorder, which this medicine only quieted, not eliminated.

PROS: Paranoia decreased drastically, voices nearly gone
CONS: Enlarged breast (5 cup sizes) and no period

Great medication for psychotic symptoms. It did cause my period to completely stop and my breast grew around 5 cup sizes. Overall bad things. But the way it worked on my paranoia was worth it. However, I can no longer stay on the medication due to elevated prolactin levels which cause early onset osteoporosis.

PROS: fast relief from the abyss of deep depression
CONS: so.... HUNGRY!

Makes me hungry, but god, I feel so much better... Really wasn't eating before anyway (lost 15 lbs by accident in the last two weeks before starting it).

PROS: Low dosage
CONS: Nothing

This medication has become a godsend...really. It, at such a low dose, has decreased my paranoia, and almost completely shut down my voices. There have been little side effects with the dose I am at (2.5mg daily. I have bounced around with this medicine on dosage to find what worked for me. Turned out 2.5mg worked better then 4mg for me. Great medication. I would recommend it to anyone with voices or paranoia.

PROS: None
CONS: Causes cognitive impairment after even brief use.

I was wrongly diagnosed psychotic depression and put on this, 2mg, with paxil for two weeks. It led to severe cognitive defects, loss of personality, total inability to enjoy anything. One year after stopping things have improved a bit but I still suffer terrible problems with feeling derealization - feel like I am in a dream. Often lose sense of self when under stress. Determined not to suicide - supportive people on online forums tell me it gets better with time.

PROS: Made me feel better, seemed to reduce auditory hallucinations
CONS: Weight gain w/o increased appetite or reduced exercise

I started Risperdal as a supplement to my antidepressants and lithium meds. A couple weeks in I started having auditory hallucinations (very unlikely from the Risperdal) so my doctor increased it from 1mg to 3mg, which seemed to take away the hallucinations after a few days, but then they started coming back as fewer and quieter than before. I've also been feeling brighter later, though still depressed about stuff. But now I'm realizing I've gained about 15lbs and am barely able to fit my clothes, so I'm titrating off the Risperdal and will have to try something else when I see my doctor again the beginning of next month.

PROS: Got rid of the voices.
CONS: I still have severe paranoia and refuse to leave the house.

I no longer hear voices, but it doesn't do a thing for my paranoia and isolation. If I didn't have insurance, I would not be able to afford it. I'm glad I don't hear voices anymore, at any rate. I didn't have any side effects and it works well with my Celexa. God help you if you miss a few doses, however.

PROS: It got rid of my psychosis
CONS: It ruined everything that made me

I started taking this medicine in October of 2011 for psychosis. It worked as far as getting rid of my psychosis but it has ruined my life. I don't feel anything. I feel like I'm disconnected from my body. All I do is stay home. I lack drive and motivation. I lost my personality, my sleep is wacked up, and I am no longer the out going person I used to be. I feel like I am a living dead person. Nothing effects me. It also caused my jaw to move around. I am trying a dopamine supplement hoping to restore some of what this drug has taken from me. I feel like I've lost my intellegence and everything that made me human. Please be aware of this before taking this drug.

PROS: Brings me back to reality. Takes away my random anger spasms I get.
CONS: Makes you really drowsy.

It took a long time for me to get used to the drowsiness part. I finally did. Then I randomly stopped taking it. Started taking it a couple days ago again... and its killing me with drowsiness. Again.

PROS: It'll put you down (calm or sleep) when you need it.
CONS: You'll throw on weight like it's fun.

I've been given this medication via injection when suicidal in the E.R.. Now I take it as part of a daily psychotherapeutic schedule. One of three medications utilized to keep my mind under control. It appears to be more so effective than Lamictal; at least since I've been on it in late October 2011. I go to the gym practically every day doing 45 mins of spinning and about an hour or so of weight-lifting. So I have to work harder to keep the weight off that's associated with the weight gain being a side effect.

PROS: clears most of my hallucinations
CONS: doesn't do much for the voices

I still hear voices. I still have hallucinations, but they are fewer. I experience this terrible side effect though, from inside my bones outward to within about 1 inch of my skin experinces this extreme discomfort/numbness. Sitting, standing, laying down, eating, sleeping, moving, not moving, nothing but time (about 2 days for me) takes this away. At least with pain there is usually a way to mitigate it. I would rather nurse a hangover for a few hours than have this feeling ever again.

PROS: More energy, less racing thoughts
CONS: Rapid pulse, congestion

After 2 mos. of taking Risperdal, I'm going to try another medication for my depression/anxiety because it causes my pulse to race and scares me as heart disease runs in my family. The Risperdal helped with my low energy level and ruminating thoughts, but not much else.

PROS: clear thinking, less rages
CONS: have become diabetic with continued use

treated with risperdal for bipolar ii and borderline personality disorder. helped clear thinking immediately. more rational, less rages. downside is that continued use of risperdal has caused me to be diabetic, however, i was somewhat obese to begin with. i take multiple diabetic medications but am not on insulin at this point. the risperdal keeps me on an even keel and i'm not willing to give that up that mental clarity. so i treat the diabetes and am trying to make lifestyle changes to lower my blood sugar. conclusion: risperdal is worth it to me, but there are some possibly heavy consequences with continued use.

PROS: removes most psychotic symptoms
CONS: none

I've been taking risperidone for my psychosis for 13 months now and have found that it works well in treating my symptoms. I rarely have the feeling that people are out to get me anymore and I rarely feel that people are watching me anymore. When I first started taking risperidone, it made me a little drowsy, but now that I am used to it, it no longer does (I started on one dose a day and am now on two doses a day). I have not experienced any of the possible side effects of this medication and would recommend it to others who are dealing with symptoms similar to mine.

PROS: Worked on Schizophrenia I guess
CONS: Sexual Dysfunction

I only took this one day and experienced sexual dysfunction immediately which really disturbed me. That was about the only side effect I experienced. I don't know how well it worked because I only took it one day and I believe you have to take a med for weeks before you find out how well it truly works and I think the Geodon I was on is still getting out of my system so the antipsychotic effect I was having might be from the Geodon still in my system. I didn't feel as stupid as I could of however that I felt like some days while taking Geodon so it might actually be out of my system and the Risperdal worked. Either way I didn't experience any psychotic problems. I liked Geodon better due to no side effects except memory loss which I was able to compensate easily for and it worked great it's just too bad I had to go off of it due to it causing heart issues. I can't rate the price of this med because I don't know what it is because I don't think I pay for my meds. I'm scared of antipsychotics now due to the side effects of the Geodon and Risperdal and don't want to take any anymore.

PROS: inexpensive
CONS: side effects

I experienced extreme fatigue and sleepiness. I would easily fall asleep at night and sleep for 10-12 hours, then I would end up sleeping for a couple hours in the afternoon as well because I felt so exhausted. I had a hard time focusing and with memory and I had facial twitching. I gained 20 pounds while on Risperdal for just three months. Once I got off of it, I started losing weight immediately and had more energy. Also: "A potentially fatal symptom complex sometimes referred to as Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) has been reported in association with antipsychotic drugs. Clinical manifestations of NMS are hyperpyrexia, muscle rigidity, altered mental status, and evidence of autonomic instability." And "A syndrome of potentially irreversible, involuntary, dyskinetic movements may develop in patients treated with antipsychotic drugs." (from rxlist (seriously, this place sucks - do not buy from them) )

PROS:
CONS: side effects were horrible

I took Risperadal for my manic episodes. I hadn't been on it long before the awful side effects began. My breasts began to leak milk and I wasn't pregnant or nursing a child; it became so bad that I had to wore nursing pads in my bra to absorb the leaking. I also had what was finally determined to be transcient periods(I would stare ahead and couldn't move my eyes or speak although I could hear and see others around me).

PROS: Generics available.
CONS: Weight gain, sedating.

This medication worked well for my psychological issues, however I needed to stop taking it due to increased Prolactin levels and other hormonal imbalances caused by the medication.

PROS: Seemed to calm psychosis a little
CONS: Made it hard to breath

Obviously, it made me sleepy. But because it affected my breathing I found it really hard to get a decent nights sleep. Also calmed psychosis pretty quickly, but when I came off it that seemed to help psychosis far more. Difficult to know if that was medication or circumstance. Had the immediate effect of boosting the effect of Venlafaxine (psychiatrist said this can happen).

PROS: NONE
CONS: NONE

A stupid psychiatrist in Asha Hospital, Hyderabad had put me on Risperidone 2 mg, Pacitane 2 mg as I was suffering with anxiety and agressiveness. I do not have any symptoms of Schizophrenia or Bopolar disorder. I stopped taking it since 4 months. The result is..it just RUINED my life. I can't FEEL anything..no PLEASURE..lost my unique nature..lost my personality and identity..not getting any thoughts..consciousness is reduced..not able to concentrate on any particular thing..unable to form ideas..difficulty understand simple things..chronic sleeplessness..stiff muscles..weight gain..sensory loss..memory got damaged..hearing is damaged.vision is dim...and lot more. This med is really ****ING..I suggest no one to take this and I want to file lawsuit against the company who manufactured this rogue drug with these many dangerous and life threattening side effects..I will report to FDA to put it in block list and RUIN their business.

CONS: doesn't control voices anymore

Risperdal failed after a two months. Had a psychotic relapse. Now I hate risperdal.

PROS: Not many.
CONS: Extreme weight gain, insomnia, mood swings

Risperdal made me put on 20 Kilograms, which didn't do much for my body image and self worth. My mood became very unstable and I ended up overdosing on them. Overdosing on these meds was literally one of the worst and most uncomfortable experiences of my life.

PROS: ABSOLUTELY NONE....no kidding
CONS: Can destroy your life

This medication has RUINED my life. A good chunk of my humanity has literally been erased by f-ing Risperdal. My personality and identity have been damaged, my consciousness doesn't feel connected to my body, I can't feel ANY emotions (NONE, I'm not kidding), I have very little motivation or energy, my memory is shot, and so on and so forth. All the above STARTED just after starting the med, and never went away. Funny this is, I've been off the med for over a year and a half, and was only on the for two months to begin with. I am f-ing pissed. ***** rispderdal, ***** Jansenn, ***** psychiatry, and ***** me for having to deal with all the ***** that risperdal caused.

PROS: Greatly improved mood. Lot more stable. Not suididal anymore.
CONS: Gives me tiny hives that wake me most nights.

Feeling great on this, almost euphoric. Was a bit worried that things would get out of control or that I'd crash but instead I drifted into a slight melancholy and then back to a level mood from there. Just hope I can sort this rash. Feel there is a risk that I could do damage to myself as mood improved enough to plan things out etc.

PROS: knocks me out to sleep (i have terrible insomnia)
CONS: zombie state, detatched from reality

this medication did not do much for me aside from make me sleep 14 hours (at a dose of 3mg). after i awoke, i felt like a zombie for most of the day. not too interested in the weight gain, think i'll stick to seroquel. i am in disbelef that some take this drug every day... meds are supposed to lessen one's symptoms, not put them into a state of oblivion.

PROS: Felt as if I could conquer the world.
CONS: disorientation

This was one of my favorite medications I was on. I had a combination of this and paxil. I was taken off of it because it made me feel so disoriented and lost.

PROS: stops feelings of fragmentation
CONS: weight gain, increased appetite, emotionless

i'm on paxil and klonopin and riperdal was added because i felt fragmented in my emotions and thinking after several personal losses. it helps me with feelings of dissociating (feeling disconnected from myself or "looking" at myself from a distanced place) but also leaves me feeling lethargic and oftentimes numb. i'm not sure how i feel about it. definitely calms severe anxiety and panic attacks.

PROS: at low doses, helps with depression and anxiety
CONS: increased blood sugars

I am using this to boost my anti-depressant and anxiolytic meds. It seems to help quite a bit. The blood sugars have gone up a bit, so I need to really watch carbs. (diabetic) I find that it also helps my sleep disturbance.

PROS: ended manic episode
CONS: Felt listless and dull, like in a vegetative state; WEIGHT GAIN; constantly fatigued; sunk into a depressive episode after taking it for an extended period of time; was constantly thirsty and constantly had to

I was diagnosed with bipolar II over a year ago. I had a significant manic episode in September 2006, and my doctor gave me this to help ease the episode. I took 25 mg a day and my manic episode went away. I also have GAD so my doctor thought that it would help my anxiety. Well, it did for a while. But that was at the cost of feeling like an emotionless vegetable. After a couple months, I gained about 20 lbs, and I weighed more than I ever have in my life. Taking Risperdol was counterproductive because then I sunk into a depression (probably due to the side effects I was having!). I also felt like I had to pee all the time, and I was also always thirsty. I abruptly stopped taking it after I decided that it wasn't worth it anymore, and I lost the excess weight in no time. I figured that a lot of it was probably due to water retention. Overall, I do NOT recommend this drug AT ALL.
