I was just browsing out of curiosity, but I was shocked by some of the things people without NPD are saying to people with NPD in this "safe space". Tons of posts about how NPD can't be cured, extremely hostile statements toward NPD people, claiming that if a poster wants to address their issues they must not really have NPD... Really upsetting stuff. And I'm just a bystander, not someone here to get support for a shocking new diagnosis.

Hello trillionbytes: Thank you for sharing your concern. I don't typically post in the NPD forum. So I can't comment. However I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So I thought I would just say welcome to PsychCentral. My best wishes to you...

We’re all very aware of it, comes with the territory.

Hi, trillionbytes, and welcome! If you see a disparaging post, then please report it to a moderator. They can't read every post every day. Okay?

Hi trillionbytes,

Some times in the past I kinda (codependently) took it on myself to refer some posts to the moderators that seemed more appropriate for other forums. What you see now could be worse, believe it or not.

I was shocked when I first started reading articles by therapists in other places on PC and elsewhere about how horrible people with NPD were. It's my suspicion that a lot of the general public have been following their lead.

Some posts remained in the forum and I wondered if the resident NPD's don't like to "tattle tale". Maybe they would rather tackle things head on was my view? So, codependently, as I said, I took it on. I didn't like to do that either, maybe none of my business, but I didn't like seeing those things here. Thought it muddied the waters and perhaps biased the discussion.

My interest in NPD is kinda tangential to my broader in interest in "narcissism" in general and the (healthy) development of a sense of self and identity.

What's your interest in the topic, if you would like to say?

yes there are moderators for this forum. every forum has a team of moderators. you can see who they are by scrolling down to the bottom of the page where it says

Moderators : 6

then underneath that is the moderators names for those moderators that take care of that forum board here in this forum board the moderators are...
FooZe, TheWell, Lavender., CANDC, splitimage, Turtleboy

if you find a questionable post or one that you feel is not right in some way you click on that report triangle to the left of the offending post. then the moderating team responsible for the forum will check that out.

Welcome! It's very sad to hear this kind of response from a first-time poster. I hope the mods and members can work together to provide a safe environment for new members seeking help, and I hope this doesn't deter you away from receiving support here.

I believe most of these people (and I admit, including myself) are complaining about their personal experiences of being abused by narcissists, rather than narcissists per se.

Maybe we should have distinguished between people who have NPD, and people who have NPD who are abusive. There are many people with personality disorders who are non-abusive, and many people without any diagnosis who are abusive.

I'm really sorry that your feelings were hurt.

To be honest; I dish it out because I want it back. It’s love to me. Respectable. Stand up for yourself and don’t be stepped on or I will walk on you. Now I’m probably a bit more reserved and civil than most others of my Toxic persuasion, and it’s very difficult to ruffle my feathers unless you know me, but I know what I do to others. I know it is considered morally wrong. They have every right to call it out for what it is. Cheers to them for recognizing it and calling it out. Some who call it out like that actually like it. People are funny that way.

If your or anyone who haven npd or anyone's family of people wants to talk anytime am here no one should be posting things that belittle and are judgemental to others its not on. people with personality disorders feel thing's more than the average person feelings are stronger more intense they are human beings that have been abused or struggling with being alive this and other personality disorders are seen as cold bloodied and evil but the person with npd struggle to keep there feeling at bay
Please think before you post things that are hurtful to people who are trying to deal with feeling like suicde or guilt or depression

Eh. I'm used to reading this stuff.

People have been deeply harmed at the hands of narcissists and I can't fault them for being hostile towards narcissists as a whole. When people are in pain like this it's a matter of instinct to lash out at their perceived tormentors.
