Does anyone else get random intrusive thoughts mainly at night? If so what are they like?

When I am trying to practise mindfulness to help me sleep, or just thinking about certain things, words and phrases pop into my head. Not voices, I can't literally hear them, but they are more like intrusive thoughts.

I know there are crossover symptoms between OCD and psychosis, I feel like I am somewhere in the middle at times.

I have had psychosis though, and it is sometimes similar to the kind of things I hear during an episode.

What kind of things do you hear during psychosis?

That I am a psychopath, a lesbian, have no empathy for anyone, am manipulative, people's names, I can hear certain people I know talking to me and they sound like actors 'playing the part'. Then other people who I don't know. They argue with me if I defend myself.

I hear voices through the fridge, freezer, washing machine, the computer, and on the television. The television programmes seem to be giving me clues to things going on in my life. When watching sport the crowd shouts abuse at me and the commentators seem to be commenting on my life.

The neighbours outside are talking about me too. Just the same types of words and phrases. Even when I went online I thought people were using fake accounts to communicate with me. It goes on every waking minute.

During the first episode I found that I didn't dream when asleep either. Indeed you appear to be in a dream state when psychotic. I can vouch for that, as even now, as with dreams, when something that upset me happened during psychosis, if it happens again it reminds me of the upset (on a less emotional level) I felt when ill.

I didn't really see anything. Sometimes I heard 'let go' and phrases like that, when thinking about certain things, and I get those thoughts coming into my mind still now when thinking about them (but not voices).

I am wide awake when these things happen. I am 100 percent sure of that. They are just thoughts in my head that dont make sense. For instance this morning I woke up really early. I laid there wide awake for about five minutes and the thought I am going to make you go to Greenbriar came up. I dont even know what Greenbriar is. Never heard of it in my life. So I was like I am going back to sleep rolled onto my side because I cant sleep on my back and fell back asleep. Got up and wrote it down because I am supposed to be keeping a journal of this for my therapist. Why I know I am awake is because I do dream and these are not dreams. Also because I have to take meds to fall asleep. I never feel sleepy so when I want to go to sleep I have to close my eyes and hope I fall asleep. If I keep my eyes are open I will never sleep because I never have that feeling of sleepiness. I have a sleep disorder. So I know that I am awake when this happens.

Have you ever had a psychotic episode? It does sound a bit like what I experience now in the middle of the night. I am not currently hearing voices but I do get strange phrases and words come into my head sometimes.

What meds are you on for sleep?

I take Invega and Zoloft to sleep. I am on a Invega injectiin and zoloft by tablet. I have these during the day as well. Just more when I am not busy. Invega is a antipsychotic and zoloft is SSRI.

Maybe another med would be more helpful for sleep. Lack of sleep might be causing the intrusive thoughts. Certainly you need enough sleep to stay well.

Sorry took so long to reply.
