Whenever I have thoughts..or sometimes when I'm bored or anxious.. or to be honest I just always pick my chin hair. Half of the times I don't even realize I'm doing it. I'm not sure if it's even the hairs that bother me so much or if I would still pick if they weren't there. I just need some advice. I'm in the process of switching therapists..but my last one said I need to find something to busy my hands. Which is obvious advice... but what do I do with them. I don't want to destroy my face anymore but sometimes I honestly can't stop. It's bruised, sometimes infected, sore, my jaw hurts from propping my face up so I can brush my fingers across the right area, my fingers hurt from picking and rubbing the hair in between them. It's just weird and compulsive and I need ways to distract myself. Help.

So. What do you do with your hands?

I’ve been thinking of trying one of those spinning “fidget wheels” or other types of anxiety-lessening toys. There are many varieties on Amazon.

I bought a roll of bubble wrap that really helps me! I know it's wasteful, but it helps with my dermatillomania.

I am teaching myself how to crochet. So far all I can do is one long strip. If anyone needs a scarf for their pet beetle let me know, I got you.

You could try stress balls, fidget toys, or knitting.

Recently I’ve taken up “parachute cord tying”. I make bracelets and small items, like keychain buddies, zipper-pulls, lanyards, Christmas ornaments, etc.

There are all kinds of things one can tie and simple-to-follow YouTube videos to assist you. I give away the things I make to family and friends. It’s something to keep my fingers (and mind) busy and productive during Corona lock-down.

You can try snapping a rubber band trick. This trick is mostly used by people to get rid of their bad habits. Using this trick can cause visible marks on your wrist.
