I have been picking and pulling since I was 10. I'm 30 now. I didnt know it was labeled something until 6 years ago. I have tried all the tricks short of shaving my head. Luckily at this time I have no bald patches, just spots of thinning. I am diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and working with medication changes. I dont want those thinning spots to turn into bald spots. Any suggestions other than gloves or head coverings?

I'm sorry this has been such a struggle for you. I don't really have any particular suggestions I can offer. (Hopefully there will be other PC members who will.) However here are links to 4 articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of trichotillomania:

My Life with Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling)

What's the Best Treatment for Hair-Pulling Disorder?

Cause And Treatment Of Trichotillomania

I understand. I pull mine. I finally cut my hair enough that I can't pull anymore.

Right now I have my long hair. I did do an undercut so I had a shaved head in the back. It helped with pulling hair in that location but I just switched llto a new spot. I did purchase a fidget ring to wear and that has been helping.
I always felt so alone with my hair pulling. It makes me feel better that is more common than I originally thought.

Yeap, definitely not alone. I've been pulling for abt 5 years now. And since I've dyed and bleached my hair a few times, I always try to find the "bad" hairs on my head and pull those. I don't mess with the healthy ones. I've always had so much hair that I don't have any bald spots either. But when I notice the already thinning spots getting thinner, I get anxiety. Tbh I've never tried to stop. But i think the best way to do it is to deal with the deeper issues that have caused it.

There's Beckie on youtube that has trich and she has talked abt it and has been dealing with it since she was a teen I believe. Maybe her channel can help u, I know she has tried to stop many times. YouTube
