What OCD med do you use/is most widely used?

When Anafranil became available it was hailed as THE med for OCD. For some reason, it seems to have lost popularity. Nowadays it seems Zoloft is often used for OCD. Frankly, I'm not sure why Zoloft is used for OCD since it's an activating SSRI. But from what I've observed/heard Zoloft does help some people, to some extent, with OCD symptoms.

I tried Anafranil and had side effects so I went off it. Luvox didn't do much. Prozac helped me as did Zoloft but both also gave me side effects but not as bad as the Anafranil. But everyone is different.

I haven't ever been formally diagnosed, but a lot of my compulsions went away when I got started on clomipramine (Anafranil). I only took it for a couple of months but when I quit it didn't get back to the level it was before, so that's good.

I've taken Lexapro and Paxil for OCD. Am on Paxil now. I find the two to be pretty much indistinguishable from one another. Both have been helpful.
Oh, and I was on Cymbalta. Helpful, but not as good as Paxil or Lexapro. Cymbalta is an SNRI, so it doesn't hit on serotonin as much. OCD has been linked to serotonin. Quite strongly. Any med that hits serotonin well will be helpful. Which one works best will vary from person to person. __________________ Dx: Bi Polar 1, rapid cycling, mixed episodes. OCD, pure O. Oh and Zyprexa has been good for my OCD as well. It doesn't "relieve" my symptoms so much as it keeps them from progressing to full blown delusions. It sort of dulls their intensity.

I have read that Luvox and Paxil are good. Also, Anafranil is a medication for OCD. I have been on Luvox and Zoloft, both I stopped. Luvox due to increased depression, and Zoloft due to side effects. I am on Effexor XR, not for OCD specifically though, mainly for depression and anxiety.

I'm really sensitive to meds. I can't take SSRIs. I can't take most things. For a number of years I was on Epival and Wellbutrin together and they worked for me.

I'm sensitive to meds also!! I've taken Prozac ( didn't work) celexa ( didn't work) Zoloft also didn't work now I'm on Paxil and hopefully that'll work. It is quite frustrating when you try medicines and none of them work.

I've tried every OCD med in the market. None have worked for me. The worst were Celexa and Luvox. Celexa made me begin harming myself. I've never harmed myself before taking it. I stopped taking it after 1 day. I then took Luvox, which ruined my sex life. I got off of Luvox within 30 days. Any med that affects my sex drive is a big no-no for me.
The only med that decreased my OCD symptoms was Lamictal. Though it's not used for OCD, it was the only med that made me stop drinking alcohol and severely decreased OCD rituals. Best yet, I've had no side effects from Lamictal. |

I am on 60mg of Citalopram and its an anti-depressant, but also its used as an anti-obsesser and it seems to be helping me on the OCD side of things.

My first med was Zoloft, but that was before I was diagnosed with OCD and was being used for depression. I can't remember the dosage but they upped it after my OCD diagnosis. I'm now on Lexapro 20 mg but can't say it's working too well.
