interesting thread. noticed the ovary test. if in america women have yearly physicals that include internal exams of the reproductive system just like the guys have periodic check ups on their reproductive/ prostate exams. its completely normal to have this happen either out patient or inpatient depending upon when its discovered that its time for a woman to have that exam.
one thing I discovered was that part of the reproductive system is some hormones are regulated by ovaries. (Which is why they did not remove mine after my last child was born) when these reproductive hormones are either missing or lacking weird things can happen. so to rule in or out problems they also check the reproductive system and related hormone levels. |

I've had the CA 125 and a plethrora of ultrasounds on top of the pelvic exam that checks ovary placement and for lumps. I know women can be checked for hormone levels nearing menopause. I was just curious if there was something else?

example when ever my doctors want to check my iron levels they take bloodwork that includes hormones, when I am losing or gaining weight too fast on comes the blood work that includes hormones, they keep track of my hormone levels because of my medications, they keep track of my hormones for many of my physical health problems... my wife is diabetic keeping her hormone levels are very important. my daughter gets frequent bloodwork that also includes hormones because of her mental and physical health problems. there are literally hundreds of problems that hormones can cause if too much or too little in the body so they are usually part of many blood work panels. |

Has anyone ever suggested a thyroid panel? Thyroid issues can cause havoc if they're out of wack.

I showed signs of early menopause (REALLY early) and I had blood work. None of the hormones that would indicate menopause were found or elevated. So next time in office after my exam my doctor recommended a uterine biopsy. The take these like..snippers and go up through the cervix and snip a small piece of the lining and send it out. Yes it hurt and I had cramping. Apparently sometimes your bloodwork can be normal but this test shows the hormones(?). Anyway I am not in menopause but still have those symptoms so my doctor is operating under the assumption that its perimenopause. Hormones are very important, especially for women.
