Default what is projection

Is this projection? I often run these mental movies where another person is being overly critical of some simple task I'm engaged in. Often it's an old woman, a motherly type giving guidance. Like " okay now flip the egg over slowly, easy now. Watch it! too close to the edge of the pan."

Are these attitudes I have towards other people? As in they are poor drivers, can't speak clearly, have some annoying habit etc. Is this saying I need to be a more accepting, patient person-of me and others?

Thank you so much for making this thread, kreg! I believe this is a very interesting question! I'm not an expert, but I believe projection is when you're attributing some of your own characterics, or the characterics of some other people in your life, to other people that you meet in life! That's just my opinion though! I may be completely wrong! I hope other wonderful people here on PC will be able to explain it better to you! I believe you may want to be kinder to yourself and to other people in yourself if you feel like you're putting yourself or others down too much! Do you see a therapist? Maybe that could help! You could learn new ways to cope with your feelings! I believe it may be really helpful to you and that it may be somethign worth exploring! Let us know what you decide to do and please keep us updated as much as you can! Please don't be so hard on yourself! Please be kind to yourself and ot others! We can't fully take care of other if we're not taking care of ourselves after all! Thank you so much for making this thread! i believe it will be really helpful to many other people! Sending many hugs to you, kreg! You're a strong, wonderful person! We all know that! I'm sure you know that as well even if it's deep down! You just need to be kinder to yourself and to others and I'm sure you'll be able to see yourself like the strong, wonderful person that you truly are! Keep fighting as much as you can and keep trying your best! That's all you can do after all and it's more than enough! Keep fighting! You're a strong, wonderful person! Please remember that because IT IS TRUE ANDS YOU KNOW IT! YOU ROCK! PLEASE REMEMBER THAT!

I think that projection is when someone takes some negative quality and transfers it into someone else. It could be that the person doing the projection tells someone else they are bad at singing. Or that they are a negative person.

I think it’s wise for everyone to be more accepting and patient towards self and others. Thanks for posting this question!

I agree with both of the above. Projection can be a beast

Thanks for asking this question! Please keep us updated

I also think that many on pc are striving to be more accepting and patient towards self and others (maybe the “opposite” of blaming others (who haven’t been abusive) ...rejecting them etc or blaming of self )

here where I am no this is not projection.

here when someone is having mental movies going and imagining conversations where someone else is being critical is called "daydreaming" and using ones imagination

here where I am projection is when you are actually with someone and you are getting angry so you tell the other person something like dont get mad at me. when they are not the one that is angry.

another word for projection here where I am is called "transference"

I have noticed online that sometimes this is used to mean what my location calls attraction but here where I am we have definite definitions and boundaries on all three of these words and their definitions.

Assumptions are actually a type of projection when placing one's own way of thinking about something & saying the other person is thinking what in REALITY they aren't thinking.

Here is the psych definition of it:

This sounds like simple daydreaming to me.

"Projection" is when we project negative characteristics of ourselves onto others. As the Wikipedia example says, a rude person denying they are rude but accusing others of being rude is projection.

Projection is when you point the finger at someone else, and there's three fingers pointing back at you. Basically, you are the thing you are calling someone else.
