Great read.
He says that just because we evolve in our thoughts and behaviors does not necessarily (or usually) mean the evoluntionary change is a moral or good one. We have to work at that (being moral and good). This was not something I've thought of before and it also struck me in a lightbulb moment kind of way. Thanks for the Sunday thoughts. |

My own Sunday thoughts:
I thought more on this. I like being kind, altruistic and mindful and positive. It has helped me in countless ways and I feel I've made my own world around me a better place - even if its just choosing to say nothing when I could say something (something unhelpful). No, these things are not always things that come easily to me, especially in the world we live in. But practicing them makes me a happier, more grounded person. I understand that the author is saying though, that when someone is selfish, rude or hurt a us, there's an explanation (evolution) he has found that brings him peace. He also says we have a responsibility and choice to respond to hurtful actions more maturely and mindfully. I'm totally paraphrasing but it was something like that. It takes work. And its worth it. |
