Things hadn't fully calmed down. We were still having protests up to the time that the virus started to be an issue here, but protests were more limited to certain hotspots and easier to avoid. Supermarkets were stocked better.

Now, we are back to the same, but due to the virus. Curfew with the military on the streets started again last night. We are under state of catastrophe and identity controls. In the capital, the military, police, etc. can stop you and do an identity check to make sure you are not supposed to be under quarantine.

I am exhausted. I can't believe we are going through our second curfew in six months. I never thought I'd experience something like this in my life.
@rechu

There are similar things going on where I am. I don't think it's as military-like where I am. But they are certainly trying to detain people and keeping people off the streets. It's unfortunate. I guess that they (at least where I am) have the best of intentions in keeping people off the streets. Is there mandatory quarantine under enforcement where you are?

UK is currently operating on telling people to socially distance themselves and work from home. I think the majority are being careful but unfortunately not everyone so I suspect lockdown is imminent...

Thanks!! @BethRags

@WastingAsparagus It's sort of a weird, variable situation. The cases started mainly in the northeast of the capital, a more affluent area. Essentially it was people with money who went on summer break to Italy and Spain. Last week the mayors of three of these municipalities (one where I lived until about a year ago) declared some sort of quarantine, even though the president said they don’t have the authority to do so. A former neighbor says they are taking it more as a recommendation.

Our international borders are closed. Easter Island is quarantined, as is Chiloé, they basically stopped running flights and ferries, cutting it off. A few places down south where cruises passed through have been quarantined. Finally, there is a city called Chillán that has had a whole lot of cases for a town of its size, nearly all linked to a gym. The city is under quarantine. It’s almost impossible to get in and out.

Then, if you are traveling to the farther north or south where there have been fewer cases, they have set up health checkpoints where they take your temperature and ask some other questions before deciding if they give you a pass to continue.

In Santiago, especially in the worst hit communities, the police, military, etc. can stop you to do ID checks to see if you are on a list of people that are supposed to be under quarantine. I live in the Metropolitan Region but not in Santiago Province. So far we haven’t had such measures here. I’ve only heard of one case in the area.

Then, they are doing checks on people going to the coast. They are telling people from the capital who have vacation homes on the coast to go back or not to go. Apparently there are checkpoints on the major highways. I am amazed that they can do that, but I guess that’s the reason for the state of catastrophe declaration. My husband says it feels like we’re in some sort of futuristic apocalyptic movie.

I do wonder if this is all a ramp up to stricter movement restrictions.

My fear is when the disease starts to hit the poorer municipalities of Santiago, which feels inevitable by now. My husband has experience working in such areas. People in many neighborhoods live in cramped conditions, 10-12 people in a small house, often several generations, putting the elderly at risk. Many have more chronic health issues as well. It’s not going to be good.

I'm so frustrated. I've been having severe depression for over a month now. This COVID-19 is making it so much worse for me. I was suppose to have an appointment with my therapist today and it got canceled. I have had 4 days off from work and I'm not handling this isolation very well. I guess for me it's good I have an essential job and am going back to work tomorrow. This is a very long weekend for me though. Thanks everyone for Ietting me vent.

That is rough. I am afraid of what the isolation and fear are going to do to people's mental health. Having a therapy appt. cancelled is so unsettling.

I do believe it's fortunate that work gives you some structure at this time.

We have been shelter in place for about a week. Husband has been furloughed without pay. I'm about to start teaching via technology from home. Son's university has gone completely online. It's a stressful time. Good friends ours are in full quarantine after a coworker tested positive. We do try to take a walk or so during the day; we are in a neighborhood where we can do that and still be completely away from others. Or we'll sit in our backyard just to change our eye-line and get some fresh air and sunshine. Every night we have movie time and one of us gets to pick the movie. Our other adult kids are "essential workers" so we don't see them since they are out among people for their positions and my husband and I are both in high risk categories.

@ArtleyWilkins I'm glad that you are at least able to go out for a walk. We live in a small gated community outside of a town, so we also are able to get out and walk the dogs around the neighborhood. It's helpful to be able to get some air. We're still not on total lockdown, but we minimize going out when possible.

I am trying to be positive about the things I can be thankful for. For example, we moved about a year ago to this area. The area where we used to live has had a lot more cases and is much more densely populated. Our old street had duplex houses with everything very close together. In general, it is harder to avoid people there because that is the capital city. I am also very glad I am a freelance worker and am completely set up to work from home. I have pre-existing respiratory problems, so I need to avoid getting sick as much as possible. They are talking about cordoing off the municipality where we used to live due to the high number of cases. Basically, people wouldn't be able to get in or out.

My husband is now on telework. Unfortunately, our backup laptop just died. We took it in for service, but parts aren't available. His work doesn't have the capacity to get people computers in these circumstances. I also work from home and need a computer. Yesterday was frustrating. My time is more flexible so I was the one that ended up working until late, since he had to be online at certain times. Today, fortunately, he doesn't have a shift and we ordered a notebook that is going to arrive tomorrow, so that is good news at least.

I'm very relieved. My room mate at the last possible moment before almost full lock down went down, got permission and the necessary access to work from home. So mercifully he's still employed, we were afraid he was going to be let go, as he's only on contract. It's still a novelty for him, so he's enjoying it.

I'm on disability so didn't have a job to go to / lose. In a way it's good as at least my income is protected, but absolutely everything I went to is now closed. Even my Dr appointments are by phone. Basically I go out for a short walk each day in a park by my apartment building, and other than that only leave to go to my pharmacy to pick up meds. I'm bored out of my mind.

And gov't and health officials are starting to throw around months instead of weeks before we're able to get back to anything resembling normal.

Good news, splitimage - except the boredom. I'm there, too. I just keep sleeping because I'm crazy-bored. I won't be surprised if this drags on into June.

Yeah - I think June is best case scenario. Our prime minister announced financial aid for anyone affected, including income replacement for anyone put out of work, but not eligible for unemployment, and it's available for 4 months. The thought of being cooped up into the summer is enough to drive me round the bend. Just have to take it a day at a time, I guess.

I'm in southwestern Ontario in a college program at the moment. No one is allowed into the college. My theory classes are still going on, since they can be done online. The program I am in has practical classes that cannot be held at this time. This makes me wonder if I should postpone my studies until next year. I'm in semester 5 and supposed to graduate in August. I have a feeling that isn't going to happen this year.

If the state of emergency goes beyond May, I am going to return to Ottawa. There is no point staying in this city, where I know no one.

My workplace has shut down, so work is not an option for me at this time. Netflix, my two online classes, OTN appointments, walks, drawing, texting and phone calls have been easing the isolation.

Our capital city is locking down seven municipalities with the highest incidence of cases tonight. People will have to go online and apply for a permit if they need to go out to buy groceries, medication or to get medical assistance. These are limited to one person per household and there are time limits. You can also apply for a half-hour permit to walk your dog. Employers also will be giving permits for their essential workers. If you are on the street, military or police personnel can stop and ask for your permit.

The city also has health checkpoints on major highways and roads for anyone that wants to enter. This applies to the whole city, not just the quarantine areas

About a year ago, we left the capital to move to a more rural area to the south of the city. We are still in the Metropolitan Region, but in a different province. There have only been 2 reported cases in our municipality, both were in the same household, so we aren’t under those sorts of restrictions out this way. We definitely won’t be heading into the capital, though. I don’t want to deal with checkpoints.

My state did the stay at home starting midnight tomorrow. This am I did the grocery shopping for the next few weeks. Got most everything on my list except powered milk and pumpernickel bread. So we're going to have to stretch the milk but otherwise don't have to leave home for ages.

Gas tho!!!! Below $ 2 bucks a gallon! My tank is almost ful tho.

Everyone's stories on this thread are heartbreaking. Overnight our entire world changed. I'm still in a fuzzy denial...like, this cannot be real, it cannot be happening.

Love vibes to each of you

Here in Italy it's still lockdown till mid April at least. It will be sad to spend Easter like this. I still hope that for then we will have improvements, so we could at least feel happier and more hopeful, even if it's not all over yet.

Italy seems to be improving. Cases are on the order of 4000 per day and recoveries are adding up. I think we are 2 weeks behind you so I think we should be recovering around the end of April.

Well, I am from India and after 24th march our whole nation is in complete lockdown till 14th April 2020. We can buy essential items but coming out of home for not a valid reason is not allowed. Currently I am working from home and I am having some kind of problem of anxiety as I am not used to it bcz of my social nature.
