I dont know if something wrong with me, if I'm getting old (44yoF), is this amnesia, dissocation, etc. I k n ow people can't diagnose here. When you are thinking about something but also reading etc. Multitasking with your brain do you zone out? Like you didn't see what you just were reading. Like you zone out from your surroundings. This might just be normal but I've really noticed it within the last couple of years. Im responsible for watching the front desk where I live sometimes im so in thought or focused on something else I dont notice people and I look stupid.

I call it my autopilot. Like I almost never remember driving. I just get in the car then I'm where I'm supposed to be. I zone out whole conversations and sometimes I lose most of a day. Wish I could tell you what it is but it's happened to me since I was a kid but when I was a kid it tended to only happen when things got really bad. As an adult it just happens whenever but I have noticed it happens more when I am doing something I don't like to do or find boring such as driving. Just know you are not alone in this

I can zone out as well. One time I was watching videos on my phone (with captions and sound off) at the airport and I didn't hear when they called my name to board.

I didn't know until just now that it doesn't happen to everyone.
Actually, at your age, you are probably pre-menopausal which makes everything worse. It gets better once you're over the hump but it can get pretty uncomfortable until then. Do you know if you have ADHD? It sure sounds like hyperfocus to me. Imagine you are an ancient human, when we were still hunter-gatherers. You're out hunting and spot a rabbit. Whether your family gets to eat tonite is up to your hunting skills. You watch the rabbit intently, never taking your eyes off of it, but all the while scanning for additional prey when you suddenly spot a deer. Your focus immediately switches to the deer, watching and scanning as before. That's all ADHD is. The ability to hyperfocus on what is important to you, and just as quickly change focus to something more important (to you) at the expense of all else. It's a survival mechanism that backfires when you are a hunter/gatherer in this day and age without the skills needed for agriculture. Generally speaking, since we are no longer nomads. __________________ You're only given one little spark of madness. i am not sure if it is at ALL the same thing but sometimes it does happen albeit i am able to regain my focus rather quickly. It usually happens when i am thinking about something else. i'd say mostly DayDreaming. In any case i wouldn't worry too much if it doesn't interfere with Your Daily Life. Does it bother You? SEnding many safe, warm hugs to BOTH You, @Rive1976, Your Family, Your FriEnds and ALL of Your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

I have the attention span of a newt. It dazzles my husband sometimes because I can go from one thing to the next to the next, usually all unrelated, thus keeping him in a constant state of confusion so that I'm not the only one who's confused.
Actually, it's completely involuntary and I have to remind myself it's difficult for people to keep up, my mind is so active. It could be worse. I could be sane and boring. That could be considered stupid to some. I think its because you find it hard to concentrate.
