Dear Devinegirl34,

That sounds distressing. I wish I knew what to say that would he helpful. Have you consulted with a physician? Sorry I couldn't be helpful to you in this. I sure hope you find answers.

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Hey, devinegirl34, and welcome to Psych Central! We're not experts here, but it could be a stress/anxiety reaction. I agree with the suggestion that you see a doctor,. They can see if there's something physically wrong with you or a stress issue. Either way, they help. Okay?

first may I point out that you made this post. heres why I point that out. in order to make this post you had to consciously move your body and your brain had to work.

1. you had to think about how to make the post
2 you had to log on
3 you had to find the forum
4 you had to find the right forum board to post in
5 you had to move your fingers and hands in all those steps.
6 you had to move your fingers, hands, head and eyes, possibly shoulders in writing your post
7 you had to find the submit reply button by moving your hands, fingers on the mouse to scroll down to the submit reply button.
8 you had to move your fingers to click on the submit reply button.

reason why I point all these out is that though not being able to move can be scary and when we think we cant not force our bodies to move we are in fact doing so..

its called reality testing when you look at all the different movements that it took to make this post, the movement in neck shoulders, head, face, the brain, fingers, hand wrists... all of that is proof that you can and do make your body move.

my suggestion is talk with your treatment providers. though not being able to move your body is a physical not mental problem, thinking you arent when you are may be symptoms of many different things.

but I do know of one mental disorder that does have a situation called catatonia where a person cant move not even to feed their self or make a post online. depending upon how long they remain in that state they can like a friend of mine end up on a feeding tube and institutionalized for months until she came out of it and showed she can now take care of herself. the reason she entered that state of catatonia is her diagnosis is schizophrenia and she stopped taking her medications. once on meds again she is fine.

please contact your treatment provider they will be able to tell you what this is in you.

I do not think its a mental issue per se. I think it could be symptoms of some kind to anxiety. The good news is that it can be defeated. You just have to try relaxation methods. I listen to music.
