It could be that it requires some combination of THC and CBD to have the desired effect. To bad they won't take up more research on it. The politics are still stopping it I am afraid.

Quote:
Less is known about cannabidiol, although the research suggests that it interacts with THC to produce sedation. It may independently have anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, or antipsychotic effects, although the research is too preliminary to be applied clinically.

Yeah its the thc and it def elavates my anxiety when I smoke. I have a ton a med weed and it just sits here, I will not touch it. The thc conten is about 29.4% I would look into strains that contain more cbd. My uncle smokes it, he was just diagnosed with als. Everyone is different but I agree that im pretty scared about that idea too. I wish weed would cure my rapid cycling, then i would have to move to colorado lol

The strain I'm looking at that is available here is one that has a low THC amount (tests 5-7% THC) and a higher CBD (9-12%).

Right now where I live if you have a medical marjuana ID card you can buy from dispensaries, but there is the chance that they will soon be shut down in place of a (handful) of big businesses given licenses to sell. At that point the number of strains available will be severely diminished, including access to the higher CBD strains that I'd want in order to avoid feeling high.

But then the politicians haven't done much that hasn't been silly when it's come to medical marijuana. They either make it too easy to abuse or too restrictive to get access to. Too many of them disagree on how it should work. Yet if you don't go through that broken system you're a criminal and could be put in jail for trying to find a way to function

True, true, Trebyn.

Good luck in your quest.
May it serve you well.

Yeah, that is that something to think about. I'm not really sure what to tell you about it, tho, as far as what to do. I have thought about seeing if I could get some medical marijuana for myselg, but I am not sure what the laws are here in my state--I guess I could just find out. Anyway, if I did get, I would put it in veggie caps and take it like a supplement--no way in heck will I smoke it.

I don't agree with taking marijuana it causes paranoia, Maybe it will ease your anxiety or depression but also think of your health.
I think the laws towards marijuana in a lot of places causes more paranoia...as for health well if one vaporizes it, uses edibles or tinctures there really isn't a significant health risk. The main risk is some people are allergic to it and some people find the effects unpleasant so they could react badly to it.

Not entirely sure higher CBD strains would make you feel less high, though that depends on how you define that term. the best way to avoid feeling high would probably be to use a smaller amount than it would take to get high...it might take a little experimentation to find which amount/dosage works best for you. The lack of options in your state though seems unfortunate and fact they might close dispensaries.

The laws are going to keep changing here in the US, and it will become more and more available. Still illegal Federally so technically illegal in every state but they don't enforce it so.....cuz we got a president who was a pot head and doesn't really care about it.

I wonder if you can order from Colorado over the internet kind of underground lol. Like I said though I tried it for depression and no bueno. I don't see it working for depression.

I think that is still unknown. Not enough studies yet. Although I was a heavy pot head for many years and it doesn't seem to have had any negative effects, there is no way to know what it did to my brain however. Some brain imaging studies say it damages the brain. I say if it helps you in small safe doses vaporized or eaten go for it. Not just to get high and claim medical reasons.

I would try finding a "corrective" art therapy situation to work on the PTSD caused by bad experiences. I would not want to take drugs of any sort if I could work my way out of my difficulties with better experiences to counter bad ones (like therapy for one's difficult childhood experiences). Drugs cannot heal, they are only palliative at best while one's body heals/gets better function back and often have so many side effects it is a toss up if it is worth it?

I am pretty certain its been debunked that cannabis would cause brain damage, in fact it actually helps protect brain cells from damage in people with epilepsy because seizures can cause brain damage. It isn't entirely understood how all it effects the brain...but studies indicate you cannot suffer a deadly overdose on it and aside from smoking it doesn't do any physical damage.

I doubt someone from out of state could order cannabis from here without getting in trouble...though there are scammers that say they can sell over the internet. People from out of state can buy some if they are in colorado, still probably illegal to take it back to their state.

I don't know anything about the brain damage studies, but isn't there an increased risk of schizophrenia if an already predisposed individual uses marijuana during their late teens?

Really though, the health argument over marijuana is a smokescreen. There are many, many pharmaceutical drugs that have far more serious known side-effects than what marijuana might have. The real aversion is they don't want to legalize something that people can high off of.

However, if you're dealing with strains that have a really low THC level it wouldn't be prone to that kind of abuse, because it wouldn't give the desire effect. Equating the two would be like lumping together a 40% alcohol Tequila with a 0.5% alcohol cooler.

If they are willing to distinguish between poppies, why lump together all the marijuana strains?

I agree with both Trebyn and Hellion. I personally think it is harmless from my own experience and the experience of my friends. There are many drugs including pharmaceuticals that are much more harmful. I do believe that it has helped epileptics. For sure in small doses for anxiety or whatever it is going to be harmless at least in comparison to benzo's for example who have a whole bunch of problems.

All the evidence is mostly anecdotal though and based on peoples experience. that can be very powerful evidence but I like to look to the hard scientific data. There is not that much of that. All the big research institutions are afraid to touch it due to political reasons.

I know from my own use it caused memory problems and motivation problems when I was using. Like I said on the good stuff I could wander around all day at work looking for my tape measure in my hand. My co workers and I agreed no good stuff at work because we couldn't stay on task. I am more talking about heavy chronic use having harmful effects especially on a developing teen brain. i was a heavy chronic user as a teen and I have no idea if it effected my brain development.

There is conflicting info on it. They are mainly talking about heavy chronic use. There are some brain images going around that people who are against it post on face book and such. The jury is still out from a scientific point of view I think. If I thought it would help me I would smoke it and not worry about it. Maybe there is more risk with the AD's I am taking.

Heavy Marijuana Use Alters Teenage Brain Structure | Psychology Today
Quote:
In an alarming twist, the study found abnormalities in brain structure and also identified memory problems two years after the heavy marijuana users had stopped smoking pot as teenagers. The researchers found that memory-related structures in their brains appeared to shrink and collapse inward, reflecting a possible decrease in neuron volume. These findings indicate that there could be long-term detriments of chronic marijuana use as a teenage.

I've been reading some studies that say marijuana is not that great for people who have heart conditions. For an hour or two after using it, the people's heart rates increased to "strenuous exercise" levels, so if the person already has a problem with their heart that's not very good.

That being said, it seems to be the THC responsible for that. Some of studies sought to find the exact cause and found that even a small amount of THC had an impact, while the CBD had no impact whatsoever on the heart rate.

Here's one of those studies: Acute effects of a single, oral dose of d9-te... [Curr Pharm Des. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI

Since I have congenital heart disease that's yet another reason for me to stay away from the THC strains, and to try to find a legal route to the high CBD ones.

My only experience with pot is that it made me paranoid. But, then again, I wasn't experiencing anxiety at the time either so I can't comment on its usefulness for that purpose. I hope it will help you if you decide to go that route.

I'm just finding this all really helpful--I'm a recovering addict attempting to use marijuana and my psych meds (only, no other drugs or alcohol) to manage my depression. So far, it definitely stops episodes of uncontrollable crying, but it definitely numbs me out.

Treating anxiety with marijuana is absolutely fine! There's no harm in doing that. However, it's important to use the right products and dosages for you to be safe during the process. You may want read this to find out the best CBD oil for anxiety. Hope this can help!
