I went to my friend's birthday party and I was already feeling social anxiety. I tried to stay positive, but her jack russel terrier mix kept jumping up on me and barking at me, which imo is a very disrespectful thing for dogs to do, but I feel impolite by correcting another pet owner's dog's behavior. So I knew everyone at the party, no one I am close to but all were people I went to high school with, but still I wanted to be away from everyone else. At one point at the party the dog nipped at me, but nothing major. There were two dogs but this dog in particular followed me around barking at me and jumping on me, he did this to no one else. I even talked to my friend about wanting a small dog when I move out. Then her dog big me. I got up to go smoke and the dog was on the couch. He jumped up and bit my thigh hard and barked at me. My friend brought me ice, but I had enough, so I left.

I got home and cried on the phone with my mom. The dog pierced flesh and it was bleeding, and I have giant bruises where he bit me. I was so upset. I was really looking forward to this party but it turned out all wrong. I also really wanted a little dog for an apartment but no, I have never met a little dog who was quiet or sweet or intelligent. All little dogs do is yap, yap, yap at whoever is coming or going out the door, they jump up and dig their claws into your skin (I was wearing shorts when he bit me, so he bit bare skin), they jump on couches when you don't want them to, and they're vicious to those who aren't their owners. Little dogs are mean, bark incessantly, and have absolutely no manners.

I don't care about how small apartments are, I'm getting a German Sheppard and training him to be a proper gentleman and an elite protector. I hate little dogs, and being bit and jumped on and barked at for no good reason is exactly why.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I was bit by a dog has a child and it's scary. But you need to make sure the dog had all of his shots. And make sure you clean the area he bit and make sure it does not get infected. Dog bits can get easily infected.

Take care and I am sorry

If you haven't had a tetanus shot recently get one.

Not all small dogs are yapping biters. Jacks are well known for their aggression.

My friend gave me hydrogen peroxide and ice, and then my mom told me to put on triple antibiotic ointment and a gauze pad. My friend said that this dog has never bit anyone before. And I am going to talk to her mom about the shots.

When I was a kid we had a beautiful German Shepherd. One day he simply woke from a nap and started viciously attacking the person nearest to him on the couch. He then turned on the person who was trying to stop him biting the first person.

Anyway, the police were called and sadly they had to shoot the poor dog. Then, i was told he had been sick. But he had been given a clean bill of health not far in the past. Nothing about that day makes any sense to me.

It did, however, make me scared of big dogs, since then. I like to see pictures of dogs because I love their happy smiles, but I feel safer when I'm not around them.

My parents would not let me be scared. We had our own dog and they made me go out and pet him after I got bit.

Just keep am eye on the bite and a tetanus shot is not a bad idea

Keep us posted

I talked to my friend and her dog was recently updated on all of his shots.

German Sheppards have to be raised right or they will be mean. Sarge happened to love children (my brother and I) and my family made sure he was well taken care of and trained properly, but he never had any tendency of being mean.

I don't understand why this Jack Russel Terrier mix singled me out over everyone. The other dog, a miniature australian sheppard mix, paid no attention to me.

I'm much more calm now, but it was really upsetting to have social anxiety and then getting bit by her dog and barked at and jumped on and clawed on. And I wasn't mean to this dog at all, Katie told me to say no when he did these things, and my "no" is very aggressive after raising Sarge, so maybe I was too aggressive with this dog, but I did restrict myself because I feel like it's not my dog and not my place to discipline him. My parents agree that that's why they don't like little dogs, because they're mean and have bad manners.

She might have smelled your cat on you and that could be what set her off

Our German Shepard smokey loved kids and everyone but he would protect our property and he would protect me.

One time my hubby and I were having a kinda but not really loud talk about something smokey got right between us and guarded me. Hubby didn't know what to make of it. Because he was the one who fed smokey so shouldn't smokey protect him ? I told him i was the one smokey laid on the couch with and I brushed him etc.

Why didn't the owners restrain the dog when it first started to show aggression? It really isn't good enough. You should have been safe and that was their responsibility.

AMEN! Oh I so totally agree with you! Lark, I'm so sorry that your friends were such inconsiderate & irresponsible pet owners! JRTs are notoriously yappy (My daughter had one in a tiny apt while she was in school -- what a BAD idea!) and can work themselves into quite a pitch of nerves including biting. Not a good mix with guests if their JRT was getting crazy. !

It really is the responsibility of the host(s) to do all they can to make their guests safe, comfortable, and relaxed. The friends you visited failed badly on all 3 counts, in my not humble opinion!
Please take care of the bite, and be VERY sure of the dog's immunizations status. So sorry this happened to you!

xo,

Chyia, outraged on your behalf

The host was discussing whether to put the dogs outside while we were preparing games, and the dog bit me a couple minutes after. The dogs are known to bark when someone is at the door and the owner restrains then until they calm down. The jrt came up to me first as i was the first guest but didnt bark until the other dog barked. I dont blame my friend, all little dogs are vicious and nasty and the dog probably sensed that i resented him. The owner was disciplining the dogs throughout the party but this dog was flat out mean so it wasnt like she completely ignored the dogs behavior. Again, I dont blame my friend, but i really hate little dogs for this reason
