My favorite animals are rats, hamsters, mice, chinchillas, etc. I don't know many people that like them.

Yes! I've owned 23 rats and absolutely adore them. They're loyal, intelligent, and fascinating. And so cute

I had hamsters when I was in middle school. Those little things never wanted to stay in their cage, especially the bigger one. He made it out when the whole family were out at the mall. It freaked my mom out, especially because she was very reluctant about my sister and I getting them anyway!

I've had 2 pet rats in my life & loved both of them. Flower was an animal behavior experiment at the university my friend was going to. I started out at a junior college. Summer came & no one took flower home so she rescued her & we time shared owner ship for awhile but I ended up with her.....so many wonderful memories I had with her.
Then I got Gus after I got married. My H was supposed to be going to Italy on a business trip & I was supposed to be staying home so I got a rat to keep me company, then I ended up going to Italy also.....& my parents baby sat Gus while I was gone for 5 weeks. Wonderful memories with Gus also. We were in a no pets apartment but the managers didn't mind a caged rat. They had a caged hamster. I ended up adopting their hamster when they left being managers. LOL...I got one of those balls for the hamster to run around the apartment in so it wouldn't get lost. I let Gus run because he was always good at coming when called. So the new manager had to come in our apartment to fix something (forget what that many years ago) He was standing in the front room & down the hall came the Hamster in her ball & then Gus ran out from under the TV to under one of the other tables in the front room. The manager just asked....."do you have any more of those things running around here"......he ended up not having a problem because we had manager approval before he got there. Love my little black & white rats.....they were definitely special pets. OK, does my farm house mouse count. It's NOT a pet but he's taken over my house. Pops out in my kitchen when I'm in it late at night. It's fun to scare the little thing.....then it doesn't know where to turn to run. First encounter with this house mouse was at my kitchen counter. It popped out on my glass stop stove from behind my oven. I put paper towel rolls up to discourage it but it just ate off the ends & went through anyway. I got steal wool & wrapped it around.....it doesn't get into my kitchen that way any more, but it's found many other ways in. I found the fringe of my front door rug chewed off......very destructive....but they are too cute......& smart. I got that decon pellets & the house mouse at that time picked up the pellets & deposited them in my toolbox that was sitting on the floor in my dining room. Smart little thing knew NOT to eat it.....or maybe saving it for later the way Flower stored nuts in her cage. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. My stepdaughter had 2 pet rats & they were really lovable! They liked human company and were clever. One of them had quite an oily coat though - never quite figured that out. The other one was very soft and sleek. They were great pets.

I used to have rats. The first one was named otis and I had gotten him from a vocational school in high school. He was a wonderful rat. I had gotten a second rat and he was so sweet. When that happened Otis became very territorial. I lost my second rat named Splinter to infections during High school. It was pretty devastating. I then lost Otis to a mammory gland tumor that blocked his urinary tract. Wow this brought up a lot of depressing stuff. But I had to get him put down. Sorry about the depressing stuff. It just seemed to spill nout. But yes rats are amazing animals. I could recount many funny stories about my wonderful rats.

I've had rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, and degus. My degus and rats were by far my favourites. I have snakes now, and I will admit that it's a bit hard to feed them frozen/thawed rat pups, so I just toss them into the snake tubs and close the lids so i don't have to watch, haha

I've only had guinea pigs as pets so far. One of my babies (actually almost 6 years old) passed away on the 30th, so I'm spending lots of time this summer with my other baby (6 and a half years old). I want more pets but I only have two more years until university so I can't make the commitment on my own. In the future I hope to have dwarf hamsters and gerbils (maybe larger Syrian hamsters as well). And some day ferrets or chinchillas, but those have longer commitments, closer to the length of guinea pigs'. And probably guinea pigs again sometime. I might try fostering guinea pigs/ferrets/chinchillas in the future when I can. I love them all so much!

I used to breed Fancy mice. The bigger the ears the better. The babies are called " pinkies".

I had 2 guinea pigs my neighbor raised when I was in high school....Freddy & Wilbur. It was so cute when I let them out in the back yard & they would eat the dandelion bushes, they would jump straight up in the air, squeal & run around the yard.....it was like catnip for guinea pigs. They were really sweet. Really enjoy their little squeals.
My daughter had a guinea pig she got from a friend as a little one. We went on our winter vacation to ski & my daughter let the friend care for the quinea pig while we were gone. After we got home, I got a call at work from my daughter & she said that there was a tarantula in the cage with her guinea pig. My brain was thinking.....that had to be a baby, not a tarantula & sure enough, her guinea pig had become pregnant while being cared for by her friend & sure enough, we had a little baby guinea pig added to the family. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. I've had many ratties in my time. I had one that was free roam. She would hide under the couch but come out to eat. Then I had my beloved Spotty that got a huge tumor and I had to put his to sleep. What was really cool is that the ladies there made an imprint of his paws that I still have years later. I really want a ferret but i hear they smell if you don't get their glands removed.
