I found a puppy that I fell in love with but there is a 300 hundred dollar deposit to hold him. So I asked a friend of mine if he could write me a check for the deposit and let me pay him back $100 for the next three months. I hope he can help because I don’t have anyone else to ask for help with it.
I know this puppy will help with my healing and get my mind off of my stress. As of right now, I’m not in therapy. German Shepherds make great pets for people with lots of issues. Last edited by DocJohn; Jun 10, 2018 at 09:24 AM.. |

Dogs are expensive things to own now. It's not just about the deposit. There's medical bills. Food etc.
But true they're great friends. |

We have the money to afford all of the other dog expenses. It’s just that I don’t have enough for the deposit to hold him and I don’t know if the owner will wait.

On your last thread, you said you had an appointment with your therapist on June 11. Has that changed?

If you miss out, maybe look at adopting a rescue dog? There's loads waiting for new homes and sadly all too many people return cute puppies when they stop being cute little puppies

So glad to hear about the puppy! If you don't have the money, looking in the shelter could be a great idea, too. People who work there will be able to tell you about their personality that would be a good match for you. And you'd feel great for saving someone who needs it so much.
Anyway, no matter which dog you get, I'm sure it's gonna be a healing relationship! |

it's better to adopt rather than buy a dog from a breeder honestly

That's great, hope.
You're sure you also have enough to neuter/spay? That's one of the big puppy expenses that's really important. I hope it works out. If it doesn't, it's still going to be ok - there will be other options. |

If the owner agrees, that's amazing for you! If he doesn't, you can always get a cote looking puppy rescued.
Edit : I originally wrote "you can buy a puppy from pet store" but then I changed it to "get a puppy rescued." Last edited by Anonymous40127; Jun 09, 2018 at 08:28 AM.. |

^ ugh no pet store puppies
Please rescue And puppies are a lot of work. I will never get one again, I would recommend a older dog and I mean 1 or above. At least by 1 you know their personality well enough to see if it will match good with you Why are you not in therapy now?? You were like a week ago? |

I agree that you should try to rescue. In my experience from when I was looking for dogs from rescues (didn't end up working out) , there are a LOT of German shepherds and Shepherd mixes out there, I think because it's such a popular breed. So you should be able to easily find one.
One good place to look is petfinder.com (lots of rescue orgs and shelters list animals on there) |

Yeah please don't buy a dog from a store. To be honest I'm surprised it's even possible in the US. It's illegal in Europe and I don't think it was even done here in the past. Can't even imagine what it looks like? Are there puppies and kittens in cages? Of course we still have huge problems with illegal puppy mills who keep puppies in terrible conditions :-(
So yeah, rescue or find someone who gives puppies away for free if they are a result of accidental pregnancy. |

No don't go down the "free to good home" or "oops" litter route, chances are the puppies will have never seen a vet and could be riddles with fleas, worms and have health problems. Better to go to a rescue because they health screen ALL the dogs in their care and will only rehome them when they're healthy. |

That's OK, I didn't mean it as a direct response to you, just a thought in general :-)

Yes, they are all in cages, the one pet store near me, the only one that actually sells pets, has super small glass "cages" and about 4 or 5 puppies stuffed in each one, they usually nap on each other or are stepping in their food bowls etc. The kittens also have the litter boxes in theirs and it's terribly sad. There is always protests outside the store here, because they charge about 1000$ per pet too |

Asking someone for $300.00 is a lot of money to ask a friend. I know you said you would pay it back but a pet in general is a huge expense. I just spent $250.00 on a vet visit last Monday then another $170 today to get blood work for the dog and this is something that recently popped up.
I’m more curious about the therapy part though. Didnt you just post a thread recently with a sense of urgency to see the therapist? Then called the office to get an appointment sometime in the next few days? Do you want to share what changed, if anything? Of course you dont have to respond to the question. I tend to seek out rescue dogs, but to each their own. |

In addition to the price of the dog/adoption fee, you should have a fund saved up for anything the dog will need (spay/neuter/food/grooming/vaccines/flea control/toys/bed/leash/collar with your name & number) and a fund for emergencies (medical problems, accident/injury, pet sitting fees if you need to go out of town/can’t walk the dog for any reason). Just this month, I’ve spent $350 taking my dog to the vet because she unexpectedly got sick and $200 in pet sitting because I had to go out of town for work unexpectedly.
