The new little one made he first trip to the vet today. She won over the staff being sweet and purring.
She weighed a whole one pound 12 ounces. She's very thin, but gaining weight at a reasonable rate. Her blood work was good. As expected she has hook worms. She also has some weird, unusual kind of worm that they get from eating things like crawfish and the like. There's wet lands behind my farm so maybe she ate whatever. Trust me to have a critter with some strange health problem. She gets a topical dewormer in a couple of days to kill the dang thing off. The vet warned me she might pass a two FOOT long worm!!! No wonder the little baby has such a round tummy! Other than the weird worm she got a clean bill of health. She got her first shots today. That's why we are waiting for treat the worm. If we did both at the same time and she got sick we wouldn't be able to tell which made her sick. My vet has a "kitten package" that you pay up front for all the shots, spaying etc at once. My credit card gave a little squeal when they ran it, but she's good to go for all her health stuff now. We go back in a month for the next set of shots. That should be it until she gets spayed. Oh yeah, she's so small I thought she was 6-8 weeks old. The vet says she's more like 8-10. |

Ack, I hope the worm is dead when she passes it! Glad your vet has a care package! Sounds like a great investment.

Yikes! 2 feet. If it was me and I was able to, I would ask the vet to keep my kitty to deal with that worm. I'm glad for except the worms you got a clean bill of health. Onward and upward kitty. Any name ideas yet?

The worm will be dead when she passes it. I figure it will end up in the litter box. I'll toss it with all the other nasty stuff in the box.
I'm leaning toward a name in French. I'm part French and have a French last name. Plus I'm reading a series of books I really love set in French speaking Canada. A tech at the vet's office suggested "Beignet" (a French donut). Also considering Gabri, who is a character in the books. Am still waiting for the little one to tell me her name. Nammu, yeah, I like the kitten package my vet offers. It's a chunk of money up front, but everything is taken care of from the get go. All I have to do now is schedule appointments and keep them. |

Yikes, a 2 foot worm. That would really freak me out - poor little thing, having that inside her. Glad that otherwise she's healthy.

cute story. Sometimes i go on youtube and see gross videos of kittens having worms extracted. They must be particularly vulnerable to them since they don't groom much.

Well, I gave her the wormer Friday. Have not seen any worms in the litter box. I'm going to call the vet's office today to see if I should be concerned.
She is doing well. Gaining weight. Acts like a healthy kitten. |
