How do I get one cat to lose weight, and one cat to gain weight? Should I feed them at different times or what? I’m kind of worried.

You might try feeding them in separate rooms. You could also try feeding each cat a different food - one for weight gain and one for weight loss.

After doing research I think the small one may be a munchkin cat.

Good ideas. Yes, you sure don’t want cats to be fat, they get kidney disease. You can treat that but its rough. Good old Americans, fat pets, fat selves, fat kids. At least now we know better. Lots of pet specialty docs now.

If one of the cats is a munchkin cat then that explains half of it. Try feeding them in different rooms as the larger cat is probably eating the left overs from the smaller cats bowl. Don't leave food in either cats bowl when it isn't time to eat.

I’m not even really sure about the heavy one. When he walks he looks ok. When he sits and lies down he looks overweight. Maybe he just really knows how to spread out or something. I did find out today they have somehow been getting into the food container even though it’s closed. Also the 3rd older cat isn’t eating very well. I don’t know what to do with him. I’ve taken him to the vet a number of times. Spent a couple thousand on him. The vet removed a couple teeth but she basically told me he’s just old and there’s nothing I can do. I’m hesitant about taking him to the vet for every little thing. He also had to go to the groomers last month too. He’s not losing any weight from not eating. He actually seems to be looking a bit hefty.

I don’t know what to do.

But at this point I think the smaller cat is ok.

I am a multiple cats and dogs household.

what my wife and I do is that we have trained each one. ....

they each have their own water and food dishes. they each have their own spot in the same room where their respective dishes are.

We do .......not......... free feed (set down food and leave it there for them to snack on all day and night)

all cats are on canned (other wise called Wet food), Yes it is more expensive but better for when cats are on special diets. the canned foods come in a variety of flavors and sized cans and a variety of health needs and ages of the cats.

the correct amount of cat food to feed cats is one ounce of cat food for desired weight you want the cat to be. (example if the vet says this cat needs to be 10 pounds, this cat gets 10 ounces of cat food a day)

on canned our cats have less digestive and urinary problems and also their weights maintain at a healthy level set by the vet.

we do not feed our cats every time we eat, nor do we feed them snacks and handfuls of treats when ever we think they are hungry. they are on a feeding schedule and have been taught not to beg, barrow or steal, cause a rucckus when we are eating, or snacking.

we also make sure our cats have plenty of exercise in way of toys, boxes to explore and places to climb and claw. cats are preditory animals, they do not spend their day snacking and begging like humans do.

they sleep, they play and rely on humans to keep them healthy. if they were out in the wild they would be exercising while they play and stalk their prey,

our cats have lots of toys, shoe strings, balls, places to climb and explore, sometimes we even leave closet doors and cupboards open just a crack, just enough to peak their curiosity and encourage their instinctual stalking/ preying play about an hour before we feed them, just like if they were out in the wild and their bodies tell them its time to start looking for food.

if you are consistent your cats will learn which food and water dishes and spot in the room is theirs and when its time to play and exercise, time to sleep and time to eat. and they will eat only their own foods. but you have to be consistent.

We have to take the smaller cat to the vet tommrow because we keep finding spots of blood from him, but not in the litter box. Does anyone know what this can be? I can’t seem to catch a break with these cats. I hope he’s ok. I’m pretty worried.

if its just spots on objects were he sat or laid down it could be two things... a urinary infection (when this happens cats constantly lick their self which irritates the area and can cause sores / redness, just like a human who wipes constantly.) or it can be that he has a "war wound" of some kind from playing or fighting with the other cat, paw pads dry and cracking (both of which are treated with topical creams and antibiotics.

if there was something wrong inside him you would not find spots of blood around the house. it would be in his stool and urine, detectable through tests by the vet. example his urine would have the blood in it, or his feces would have the blood in it and in that case it would not be red spots, the urine would be tinged brown same with feces dark brown spots in it. when litter pan cats have this problem they usually dont go in the litter pan, they associate litter pans with the pain they feel so you would know it by having to clean up cat bathroom messes around the house.

It’s bad news. We took him to the vet. He’s not just small. He’s very sick. He’s dying. He’s got a couple weeks to a couple months to live. I am going through so much at this point I can’t even comprehend.

He’s doing better. He’s taking his meds. He’s up from 7 pounds to 8 pounds. He still won’t be cured, But I have more time with him.
