Miette scared the holy lovin' pooh out of me last night. She was not in the house when I got home from work. I spent over an hour tearing the house apart looking for her. Then checked the yard, the barn, the pasture. Even hiked down to the road to make she she hadn't been hit by a car. I was losing it. Had to stop looking because it got dark. Called a friend because I was coming apart at the seams. She suggested that the baby might be hiding under the house. Yes! Was going to crawl under the house and hunt for her this morning, except I woke up to the sound of her howling under the bathtub. She'd crawled through the insulation etc and followed the plumbing into the house. Thankfully I have a garden tub with wood panels around it. Took a panel off and she popped out. While cuddling and loving on her I told her in a stern voice that she was a bad, bad girl for scaring me so.

Today was a follow up at the vet for her kitten shots. She gained weight! She's up to 3 pounds 9.5 ounces. That's double her weight from last time. She's not turning into a chunky monkey, she was terribly skinny when I found her.

I asked the vet to check her hearing. Cats are notorious for not listening, but she doesn't seem to react to any noise. The vet confirmed she either has a hearing impairment or is deaf. That probably explains why she YELLS when she meows.

Non-critter people would think I was silly but I'm exhausted tonight. I had trouble falling asleep last night worrying about the baby. Ten didn't sleep well

Not silly at all. I'd worry if Sir went missing.....one time he got shut in the dinning room closet and neither mum or I can hear him meow, but we found him. Poor thing. Glad she found her way back.

I'd be upset if one of my fur babies was missing, too. So glad you found the little one. I'm sorry for the hearing issue, but I'm sure the cat can be okay anyway.

Oh, my goodness. I am so, so glad you found Miette. I feel bad for you...what a terrible stress that she went missing. How old is she?

I hope you sleep like a rock tonight.

Okay, I read your other thread. Miette is a sweet, darling name. And she's about 4 months old? My precious kitten, London Calling, the "baby of the bunch" is 6 months old.

Poor thing, that she has a hearing impairment. But she'll get along fine, even with that.

I would have worried too. Glad she turned up ok, in an accessible place for a rescue.

Thanks for your kind words everyone.

I had a deaf cat years ago so know how to deal with the problem. She'll be okay.

(((((Miette))))) (((((Lizardlady)))))

My poor darling furbaby Ebony in the last few weeks of her life was blind (or as close as heck to blind) and we have strong suspicions she was deaf as well, wouldn't respond to any noise at all, not even the sound of dry food being dropped into her bowl from as high up as I could reach so I know how hard it is when a pet has a disability like that

In Ebony's case, it was a thing in her brain causing her blindness and deafness and breathing trouble and even the vet didn't know until too late
