I’m thinking of getting a rabbit as a pet. I’ve been doing my research and talking to people who own rabbits. I know their cages have to be kept extremely clean or they can get sick. and they have to be taken to the vet every year. I also have been told they don’t always like to be held. And they have to stuff to chew on so their teeth don’t keep growing. The person I talked to says it’s best to get two rabbits because they get lonely but he has one and it seems fine. I think rabbits live a pretty long time?
I get the idea of “adopt don’t shop” however, all of my rodents and small animals were bought at pet stores. guinea pigs, hamsters, and birds. All of my rodents and small animals were perfectly healthy and lived long happy life’s. We had zero problems. I get that there are shelters and rescues near me that have rabbits. I don’t have the patience to deal with rescues and shelters anymore. I’ve had more trouble and more of a hassle and more dishonesty dealing with them then I’ve had with dealing with petstores. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions on rabbits or anything else I’ve mentioned? __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

I don't have a lot of experience with rabbits. I dimly recall having had one as a kid many years ago. But the one thing I do know is that they'll chew on almost anything (including electrical cords.) So if your bunny isn't in its cage, you have to keep a close eye on it. I would presume that getting as young a bunny as possible, & handling it frequently, will go a long way toward helping it adjust to human attention. I also had hamsters growing up. And that was the way it was with them.

I got a hamster for Christmas when I was 9. Well the cage. I picked out the hamster a few days later. I named it Skippy. I named it after the neighbor from Family Ties. Skippy was bought from Petco and I think lived for 3 years. I would love either two rabbits named Bunny and Cher, or one white rabbit named White Rabbit after the song by Jefferson Airplane.

Do you have an RSPCA near you? I know you said you're out of patience with rescues but they are careful about where they rehome to because they don't want people adopting pets only to get bored and dump them back in rescue
I have never had a rabbit or two (can't at the moment because Tigger's a hunter), if you're thinking of getting a rabbit though get a pair of rabbits, they live in groups and it's more stressful for them to live as single rabbits than to live with other rabbits |

I’m not sure if I have one by me. But I have heard that the rescues that are careful with who they rehome the animals to are incredibly picky. Often refusing to even answer most applications. I don’t have the energy anymore to deal with applications that will most likely not even be answered. After this last rescue with the cats, I’m just not sure. I’m not 100% sure. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt. But I do wonder if they knew they were selling me a sick cat.
I know someone who has had luck with buying rabbits from pet stores. I think that’s what I’ll do. But yes, I will definetly be getting two. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |
