The vet and I concluded that Miette is deaf. She does not respond to any kind of sounds. I'm teaching her hand signals for things like getting her to come to me. I'm stumped how to teach her to stop doing things she should not. (I can hear some of you howling with laughter about training a cat, but they are trainable.) With all my other cats I make a kind of growley when they are doing something I want them to stop doing. It's pointless with Miette. She can't hear me to begin with. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a deaf cat once before, but he was born with some hearing that he lost so I could use the training techniques I usually use to teach him. |

Get something that will blow at her? Either blow air, or like one of those new years roll ups? Im assuming you want to get her attention. I know people use a spray bottle of water but other people think that is cruel. Or train the dog to stop her? then you could make a viral video of them and retire!

Stomping on certain surfaces might work as a signal due to vibrations. Or patterns of stomps.

Oh yeah I think Luna is on to something. You can get a can of air, the kind the sell for cleaning keyboards.

I like the blowing air idea, but she's usually across the room when I want her attention. I don't think the blown air would reach her.
Floor in the house is wood. She does feel vibrations in it. I'll try stomping my foot to get her attention. Thanks. I knew you guys would come up with good ideas! |
