I truly should never be allowed near a cat again.

For years my cat just would not drink water. I got the fountain and everything but it was like he didn't know what it was for. So I started feeding him wet food. I would add extra water to the food and it would kind of be like soup. I always felt I was doing the right thing... I would be sure my cat was getting water every single day... two meals a day and so I just took the water dish away.

I assumed and was sometimes true.. if he wanted more he would jump up on the sink.

I assumed that if he wasn't getting proper water his urine would be reduced but it isn't... you know I am sick but I keep tabs on this movements and he does three per day. (had a cat with kidney failure once before).

Well, he has been at me lately for something.. food I thought which I kept giving to him. But after he got sick today I put out a dish of water.

And OMG, he went crazy lapping it up. I had to take the water dish away for fear he would take in too much.

Now I feel I haven't been giving him enough water.

At the moment I am trying to figure out if it is just because he threw up today that he seems so interested in the water, but did he throw up because he isn't getting enough water?

I am so tired of not being home enough to take care of a cat. I am SO tired of EVERY SINGLE DAY getting on a train that is supposed to take 40 minutes and it takes 90. I don't even make it home in time these days to have ONE hour of leisure time. I don't have time to take care of me.. never mind my cat.

Honeybunny, to me you sound overwhelmed.

Thank you. Yes I was. I went to work yesterday early and my train was late.. so I didn't get into work for over an hour and 1/2 from the time i left. Then, I stayed late to make up for it and the train back was delayed. So I got home around 7 and my cat had puked all over the place and pooded diarrhea.

I cleaned all that up and he kept meowing at me.. so that is when I discovered the water.

Since last night he has been happy and didn't want anymore water. I think he was just a little dehydrated due to the puking and watery stool.

Just had a hissy fit. Thanks for the support.

Emily Fox, may I suggest one of those cute stuffed kitties with the heartbeat? They are battery-powered and virtually trouble-free except for when you have to change the batteries. 🙂

I spent yesterday being more attentive to my cat. He spent all day long meowing at me and not sleeping so I was concerned. But then I weighed him. From he look of him I thought he was around 18 or 19 lbs (his fatty norm) he is a big boy. But he was 16.8. Before everyone starts on the illness brigade... it occurred to me that I just haven't been feeding him enough. I thought he needed to lose weight but, he didn't.

So I gave him more food yesterday and he did a lot less meowing. Though he didn't sleep as much as I would like I find he sleeps less during the summer.
