I feel so guilty about my dog because i'm not taking the best care of my dog due to my bipolar. I'm not on a schedule and neither is she. It's probably hard on her. She seems healthy and happy but i have this neighbor who is a superstar dogmom and i feel like i never measure up. My dog sure loves me tho. I try and tell myself that i am a "good enough" dogmom and there are lots of worse dogparents out there. This guilt that's weighing me down is probably part of my depression. I just feel so inadequate.

Hon, if your pup is happy and healthy you are a good dog mom. Be kind to yourself. No point comparing yourself to the neighbor. That sure sounds like depression talking. Took me a long time in therapy to learn that "good enough" is good enough.

As for a schedule for your dog, I do not have any kind of schedule for my guy. He had his annual check up last week. He is completely healthy. You'd be hard pressed to find a happier dog.

I agree with Lizardlady, you are definitely a ''good enough'' dog mom. I think its the depression beast talking. It does take a long time (for me also) to learn that ''good enough'' is In fact good enough (and comparing self to others is likely to lead to/increase sub optimal thoughts.. you are ok as is )

How can you be a bad dogmom when your dog is happy and healthy? Are schedules really that important in the big scheme of things for dogs? Your dog loves you for who you are and that is the most important key to a dogs happiness.

All of us will fall short in so many areas when we compare ourselves to others. Try not to fall into that trap. Though it is a hard thing to stop doing.

Don't be sad! She(your dog) can understand you truly. And you are definitely not a bad "dog mom" if she is healthy and happy. Don't be negative on yourself.
