Today we lost our beloved Schnoodle, Joey. We adopted him from a local rescue organization when he was estimated to be about 2 or 3 years old. And we think he was now 16 or 17 years old. He had been diagnosed as having kidney disease (which is incurable in dogs) a bit over three years ago.
At the time of his diagnosis we thought we'd have him for no more than a few more months. But he held on, & even thrived, until old age & the kidney disease finally took their toll. We had him put to sleep at the university veterinary clinic where he had always received his health care. He lay between us on a couch as the medications were administered & he passed away. He was our companion for 14 years. For the first 6 years or so we had a single family home with a fenced yard. But Joey was never really an outdoor dog. He'd go out in the yard for a few minutes. But then he wanted to go back inside (even if we were outside.) We took him for daily walks even then. For the last 8 years we lived in a townhome & had no yard. So my wife & / or I walked him at least twice a day every day. Sun, rain, wind, snow, ice... Joey & I were out there. He looked like a muffin. But he & I would be out there when no one else was. My wife & I are both extremely sad. I personally am beyond devastated. I can't wrap my head around the fact he's not just asleep somewhere within our home. I suppose I'll recover with time. But right now all I want is to go with him. Good-bye sweetheart... __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." I'm so sorry. May Joey rest in peace.
ll miss my former pets--but I am enjoying my current ones. Have you considered maybe adopting a somewhat older dog at some point? They are hard to get adopted and would really appreciate having some owners. |

No other dog could ever replace Joey. He was one of a kind. Besides living in a townhome without a yard, as we do, having a dog is a challenge especially where we live. And we're not getting any younger either. So, no, I believe Joey will have been our last dog. My heart is broken.

Sorry for the duplicate post. And so sorry you are broken hearted. It always hurts to my soul when pet parents lose their babies.

I’m so very very sorry for your loss. I truly understand what you’re going through. My sweet little girl is 14 and I just found out she has advanced cancer. She is resting comfortably and we are giving her all the love we can right now. Soon she will leave me and I am already utterly devastated.
I know Joey was dearly loved. He knew it and you clearly gave him such a wonderful life with lots of love. I hope you find peace in your heart and soul. I am sending you hugs and kind thoughts. xx Last edited by LilyMop; Jul 25, 2020 at 09:10 PM.. |

I'm very sorry, Skeezyks. I've been through this myself so I know how painful it is, & it takes time for the hurt to lessen. And we never forget. They continue to live in our hearts & memories forever. Hugs & love to you & your wife!

I'm so sorry to hear of Joey's passing. We talked briefly about my own Schnoodle, Hush. You told me about how Joey ate four times a day and would let you know when it was mealtime. My heart goes out to you. You gave him a great life! Hush says arf!

I only had one dog as an adult and after she passed on I didn't want another one. I spent 30 years with pets. Now I can barely take care of a plant. Or myself. Skeezyks...when I lost my dog the pain was so great I was pretty shocked. I don't remember any words of comfort being enough. I feel like I know what you mean about Joey being special. I felt that way about my dog. I couldn't even talk about her for years and years. So although I have no decent words of comfort all I can say is I really relate to the pain you are feeling. Recently I have been thinking about how nice it would be to have a dog...but I am not set up for it at all...financially...or housing-wise. Also my mental state is not so good and I don't think I have the patience. I feel your pain. Your little Joey must have been a real sweetheart. I am sad for you. But also happy that you had many years of happiness with Joey. They just don't live long enough. Take care of yourself during this very difficult time. Grief is love. I pay tribute to all the love you have in your heart, Skeez. __________________ |

There is no pain sharper than the pain of losing a beloved pet. No words can dent the grief you're feeling, so I won't even try. But please know that whoever you "really" are, and wherever you are, I am sending all the love and wishes for comfort I have to give, straight to you, Skeezyks

(((((Skeezyks))))). I just now saw this thread. I am so sorry about the passing of you dog. Honestly as you know this is the loss of a beloved family member and the grief of this loss is deeply heartbreaking. These animals are every bit as unique as we are and very much a part of our daily life often for several years.
It’s been about a year and a half since my adorable shitzu passed and I still miss him so much and had him for 17 and 1/2 years. It took me a while to register that he was not here to feed and follow me to the stairs to go up and sleep with me an cuddle. Took me just until recently to even read about pet losses. My heart goes out to you as I know this really is a big loss. (((Heartfelt Hugs))) OE. |

Thanks so much for asking, BethRags. I'm doing what needs to be done. (I'm always doing what needs to be done.) But I still miss Joey every minute of every day. And I still see him around our home from time-to-time. This morning I was in the bathroom with the door ajar while I was shaving & I thought I saw him poke his little head in the door like he used to do to make sure I was home. I still seem to find something that causes me to tear-up each day as well. (I never used to be a crier. But I'm learning.) They say time heals all wounds. But I'm old. I won't live long enough to heal this one. My wife is talking about trying to find another dog who needs a home. And if she can I suppose we will adopt another pooch. But it won't be Joey. I just don't know...

Skeezyks, it's only been a couple of weeks. The wound is still fresh. Of course you still hurt. Of course you still miss Joey. Please be kind to yourself, let yourself grieve. It's okay that you cry. :saxhug:
