It's about my buddy.. A few days ago, at highschool, though she tried to hide it, I noticed her arm was covered with scars.. I ran towards her and took her it my arms, asking her if everything was okay.
She confessed me she was actually hurting herself - even if she was trying to stop, she just couldn't. I told her I used to hurt myself some years ago, too, and that she could call me anytime if she needed me. Then we had to leave each other because she had a class to attend :/ The thing is, I tend to cut myself too, (not as often as a couple of years ago though), so I know that kind sadness and helplessness, and it makes me feel very bad for her to know that she has to go through this too How can I help her ? __________________ Avatar by Hyanna Natsu- |

I don't know as I have much of anything to offer you in the way of suggestions for helping your friend. But I noticed no one had replied to your post so I thought I would. Personally I doubt there's much you can do beyond what you've already done. You've expressed your concern for your friend. And you've offered to be there for her any time she want to talk or needs support.
Beyond that, what your friend probably needs is professional help. Hopefully she's receiving that. (If not perhaps you could offer to go with her to talk to someone so that she could get the help she needs... just a thought.) Self harm is typically not considered to be a precursor to attempted suicide. Of course, if you got the impression your friend was becoming suicidal, you'd want to share that with someone... a family member, a staff member at your school, etc. Here are links to some articles on the subject of self harm from PsychCentral's archives. Perhaps some of the information in them may be of help... both to you & your friend. (You might consider sharing them with your friend if you feel comfortable doing so.) https://blogs.psychcentral.com/embra...ths-the-facts/ https://psychcentral.com/blog/video-...ury-self-harm/ https://psychcentral.com/ask-the-the...for-self-harm/ Thanks for caring... & please take care of yourself too... __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." I would make sure your friend has a therapist and a psychiatrist.
Gently I think you should stress that she should not be doing this, and for her to substitute something else that makes her feel better. I dont want this to sound trivial, but I am bipolar 2, it's pretty complicated but vigorous exercise, every day if necessary, helps me a lot. It's a distraction, it gets the blood flowing for clearer thinking, it releases feel good hormones. I am not talking about talking a walk, tho even that is helpful. I am talking about biking, water aerobics, something that really gets the blood pumping. I had a best friend who was a cutter. She really needed activities to build her self esteem, things she could do well, but her family wouldnt let her do anything.Good luck. I know this is difficult.
