My 30 year old daughter, who has suffered from depression/anxiety/OCD since childhood, has been struggling a lot lately. She has had thoughts of suicide. Her psychiatrist has now prescribed, in addition to Prozac and Risperiodone (and Xanax when needed), Abilify, Buspar, as well as Hydroxyzine (as needed for anxiety). She will (hopefully) get off the Risperidone eventually as the other meds will treat the symptoms that is prescribed for. That's a lot of meds. I'm scared so much is going to make her foggy and she won't be able to function. On the other hand, what she has been doing has not been working well. She has also been using (occasionally) alcohol and cocaine. She's knows the drugs counteract the meds, and swears she isn't going to do them until she goes to visit friends and does it again. I'm beyond frustrated and getting frightened now that we're never going to see an improvement. We came back from a vacation a few days ago, which she enjoyed for the most part and seemed to be feeling good, then suddenly went to feeling suicidal. The next morning she was feeling well, went to the gym and worked out and went to have dinner with a friend, which ended with booze/coke. She has seen a therapist a few times and is going to continue to, but I swear, she takes a few steps forward and shoots herself in the foot.
When she was about 18, her psychiatrist (not current one) had her on several different meds that made it impossible for her to function normally. She works full-time and needs to be able to get up and do what she needs to do. She's already feeling bad about not being where she wants to be in her work. Anyone have experience with any of these meds? |

I'm sorry your daughter is having such a difficult time. If your question here is primarily with regard to the med's she's taking might I suggest that, should you not receive the kinds of replies you're hoping for here in the partners forum, you might consider posting your question in the psychiatric medications forum? Here's a link:
