Default Drinking Alcohol and Bi-polar.

My girlfriend had only one Strawberry Daiquiri drink and made her go off in a mental fit of screaming and crying. No more drinks ever again.

Has she been diagnosed as Bipolar 1 or 2 ?

Is she on any medication?

The standard strong advice to anyone on any psych Med is to not drink at all. But some people can have a drink here and there with out a problem

How was she acting prior to the Drink?

Does she has any physical problems that she takes medications for ? Not all meds play nice with each other.

How is she feeling today ? Does she remember anything about last night?

She is taking Latuda for bi-polar. Has had bi-polar since she was 23 years old and now she is 68. She takes pills for Diabetes type 2 and blood pressure. She has stage 3 kidney damage. Her bi-polar is type ??? She doesn't know. She in the past hears voices and see dead people she has told me.

How was she acting prior to the Drink? She had alot of energy and got mad over little things and call people bad names without any reason. I think the drink made her worst.

How is she feeling today ? Does she remember anything about last night?
Doing good today.

Well your girl friend has numerous serious health problems. Does she try and do whatís right to take care of herself or has she just decided to blow it all off??

It sounds like she needs professional help from both medical and psychiatrist ASAP

I have given up on her mental doctor's to help her and I'm just letting her do her own thing. The doctor's here in this town seam like we have no time for her and now wanting her to go some where else for mental care. All they care here is money from state grants. I would have too threatened them with legal action before they will do anything I guest. She been talking about killing herself and she even told them and they don't care. I think they think we will wait to see if she tries before we do something.

If she has talked about suicide she needs to be seen by a psychiatrist. I understand you havenít had much luck . If she is suicidal then she needs to be in a psych hospital, while there a social worker or case manager can work to set up follow up appts , get her in with a psychiatrist and Therapist also they can check into her physical health and get appts normally quicker that you can.

Of course going into a psych hospital isnít s vacation, I have gone many times, it is a safe place to get help. Medications can be started.

Getting adequate mental health care can be hard to find. But going in the hospital can get things lined up.

Squeaky wheel truly gets the oil

Good luck

Billybob, I am so sorry to hear that she is refusing treatment. People in US cannot be forced into inpatient hospitalization unless they are deemed a risk to themselves or others.

Sometimes what happens is the person starts being psychotic and attracts attention and gets put in for 72 hour observation. Sometimes it takes more than one 3 day period to get to the point where the person is ordered for therapy.

If you have a connection to a therapist they may help you sort this out.
