I assist my ex in making his medical decisions. He has diabetes and all the serious complications that develop from that when you smoked until age 50. He is intelligent and far from decrepit, just one of those men who is in total denial about healthcare issues. I do all the research, ask all the questions, and make the decisions. When I have a health problem, Im on my own. My son lives in a different state. This is mainly designed to get people thinking, to make a plan.
Personally, my biggest question is : if your family is far away and your friends have health conditions and shouldnt expose themselves, how would you get help? Should I get someone lined up in advance on the neighborhood forum, Nextdoor? Wouldnt want someone who would come and then leave if one of us got sicker.
This is really a 3-part question, meant to help all us caregivers to plan ahead to be prepared in case we or the person we are caregiver for contracts COVID:
1. What is your plan if you the caregiver contracts COVID? I am putting this first because many caregivers put the person they are caring for ahead of themselves to the point of not planning for themselves. Who would be advocate for you?
2. What is your plan, what kind of help will you get if the person you are caregiver for contracts the virus?
3. What is your plan if both of you contract the virus?
My biggest problem is that my son lives in another state and my friends have serious preexisting conditions and cannot expose themselves.
Thanks, people. We'll get through this , but it requires some planning.

Making a plan--Nextdoor, our community forum has neighbors signed up to bring groceries, etc for people who cant. They might even be willing to call for takeout, call a doctor, drive us to testing or to the hospital. Unemployed folks are glad to make some money and these people had very responsible jobs. PLAN AHEAD TO DELEGATE. THAT'S MY PLAN.
I have stockpiled flu remedies, broth powder, and frozen food. I have masks, visors, gloves, wipes, thermometer and all phone numbers listed. This thing is NOT going to catch me unprepared. Same with finances. I am talking to my brother about restructuring my finances into safer things that can withstand various scenarios and a lot of volatility.
LOVE YOU GUYS. HUGS. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS, HOPEFULLY STRONGER THAN BEFORE THROUGH TEAMWORK. Thanks for being there.
