Hello
I am new to this forum and have been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, Generalised Anxiety and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have been wondering recently if I have other unresolved problems. Sometimes I feel it is exhausting being me, like I have lots of layers and I don’t fully understand all of them. Sometimes it feels like there are multiple versions of “me”. Does anyone else identify with those - and if so, which PDs/mental illnesses have you been diagnosed with? I feel like it would be much easier to see a psychiatrist if I already have an inkling of what the issue may be - I find it very hard to self diagnose or how to associate certain symptoms with my own behaviour when reading about mental disorders and illnesses. - M |

My experience is that it is difficult to find effective therapy for most personality disorders, except for maybe BPD. So I'm not sure that it would help you a lot with the psychiatrist. It may help you to understand yourself better -- or it may not. It did help me to get a diagnosis of PDNOS (Personality Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) but it didn't help the therapist or the therapy IMO.
Having lots of layers and multiple versions of myself -- I can identify with that, but it was more related to the DDNOS (Dissociative Disorders Not Otherwise Specified) than the PDNOS. But both of those complicated diagnoses took time for the mental health professionals to observe for themselves and to diagnose. My suggestion is to find a psychiatrist or therapist you are comfortable with, to deal with the diagnoses that you currently have, tell them your concerns that there may be more there, and go from there. But these are very complicated issues and take time. |

Hello M: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.
One thing you might do, here on PC, is to take some of the quizzes & tests that are on offer. (Perhaps you already have?) There's a link to them in the banner at the top of the page. However here's another link as well: Psychological Quizzes and Tests I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go."
