I'm currently being examined for PTSD, and today was told that they have given me a temporary diagnosis: ICD F43.8 Other specified reactions to severe stress. Does any of you know this diagnosis? Googleing it, I couldn't find much useful.

My therapist told me that when a patient have been struggling with symptoms for many years, they usually change the diagnosis from PTSD to this one. She also told me that in the new ICD version, nr 11, Complex PTSD will finally be included as a separate diagnosis, but that isn't implemented in Norway yet. But when it is, they might use that on me instead.

I've read a lot about PTSD (complex and "normal"), but I don't know this one at all..

When I googled the specific code it came up with PTSD and other Specified trauma and Stessor Related Disorders. That seems pretty general to me.

I've read a lot about PTSD (complex and "normal"), but I don't know this one at all..

short version any disorder labeled Other Specified.... has their own batch of mental disorders that only treatment providers have access to...

example I have OSDD (other Specified Dissociative Disorder). one of my OSDD disorder labels is Macropsia.

it is wrote on my file like so..........OSDD - Macropsia

think of Other Specified...as being its own category and inside that category are many mental disorder labels that are not public knowledge or publicly accessible. you only find out which Other Specified Disorder when your treatment provider diagnoses you with OS disorders.

the specified in this is that treatment providers must put on your files a diagnosis from their private listing of OS disorders and must tell you which one you have, and supply you with the information that you need to understand your other specified disorder.

my suggestion is talk with your treatment provider. they will be able to tell you whether its the one for cultural nerve syndrome, adjustment disorder syndrome bereivement syndrome or one of the psychosis containing disorders
or others on the list.

my point is you wont know which one you have or what you are looking for until you talk with your treatment provider.

what I can tell you is that in the USA complex PTSD is called by many different disorders depending upon ones own combination or symptoms, problems and what triggers the symptoms and problems to be activated. example my combination of Complex PTSD problems adds up to Acute Stress Disorder, for someone else I know it adds up to an anxiety/ phobia disorder.

please talk with your treatment providers if this continues to bother you, they will be able to answer all your diagnostic questions.

rereading your post I noticed you mentioned the ICD 11 as in it is not out yet....

the ICD 11 is already out and in use. short version in order to be diagnosed with Complex PTSD using the ICD 11 .. you need to meet the same diagnostics as regular PTSD ....plus....the CPTSD diagnostics... its harder to meet both sets of diagnostics at the same time because there are some differences between the two and there is diagnostics/ problems/ symptoms and other accompanying symptoms that are not available to just anyone doing a google search.

example in one (PTSD) though some do, there is a diagnostic that you dont actually have to experience the trauma just witness it and in the other (CPTSD) you actually have to go through extreme repeated trauma the likes of torture, slavery, genocide, long term domestic violence, long term child abuse. in one (PTSD) you have lack of affect where as in the other (Complex PTSD) you have regulating affect problems not lack of affect. one you have neurosis .... in other words they both can sometime counter act each other but yet to be diagnosed with CPTSD you still have to meet the diagnostics for PTSD. very hard to get diagnosed with CPTSD.

Getting diagnosed with CPTSD is not a matter of changing ones diagnosis because they have had PTSD so long. you do have a special set of diagnostics, symptoms and problems that you have to meet.

here is the link to complex PTSD keep in mind that not all the diagnostics and criteria and symptoms are listed here. there are some that only treatment providers have access to...
