When I was nine, they found a tumor on my liver, it really messed me up a lot. I thought I was going to die I was puking all the time I was hooked up to IVs, the doctors were sure it was cancer, but it wasn't, and they removed it and I healed very slowly, but I never really got better. I'm 18 now. Sometimes I can smell the IV fluid out of nowhere and I'm sure this is all just a dream, and that I'm still in the hospital bed somewhere grasping onto life. And I don't know how to handle it when I get these flashbacks well I can see the hospital bed and I can feel the fear and the pain, and it's so real. I don't even know what I'm trying to ask you, maybe for advice on how to get over it. It's just very difficult.

I'm sorry you are struggling with these difficult memories. Here are links to 2 articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of flashbacks that (hopefully) can be of some help:

What has helped me....when I can do it!!...is to tell myself that that was scary but I am not in any danger now. I was little then. Now I am an adult and in charge. Getting to believe myself more and more. Take care of yourself.

EMDR therapy has helped me a lot, for dealing with those kind of memories / flashbacks. There are many different types of therapy that can help with them; EMDR just happens to be what I am doing. I also do what cavaliers suggested, and that helps me too.

I wish I had some advice, but all I have are hugs.
